I know we've been over how to protect yourself on eBay, but here is another scam to watch out for.

The scams begin with either electronic equipment or musical instruments being auctioned off through Ebay auction accounts. Buyers are notified they have won the bid via e-mail and are instructed to mail the bid to a third party typically in another state. The third party, who accepts a job from a company through an Internet employment locater, is hired as shipping manager to accept payments for auctioned goods. Companies identified as being associated with the scam are Global Post Express, Global –Pay, and Nevix Global Invest. Once payments are received they are wired overseas by Western Union money transfers to Russia, Latvia, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The Ebay auction winner never receives their purchased goods, and all leads stop at the unwitting sales agent leaving the overseas perpetrators untouchable.

Internet purchasers should be suspicious of sellers when payments are requested to be sent to third parties. Always review Ebay seller’s accounts for any negative purchasers’ comments. If possible only do business with verified reputable individuals or companies.

Thanks for that info......I never do any biz through Ebay, so I'm sure there are things that I don't know about it good and bad.......however, whether through ebay, or elsewhere, I personally will not do internet biz that requires big $$$ items unless there's an address given for the biz selling the goods in question, with also a legit phone # that I can call them at, and speak with them. And when it comes to car parts, I also have to had received good reports from others who have the same car about the particular parts and business in question. Otherwise, I wouldn't be confident about such products, nor about sending someone my $$$.

One of my co-workers purchased a turbocharger kit for his car through a dealer via Ebay last year, and the guy never even received any installation instructions with the kit. he called the biz several times to request it, and he never did. He then recently attempted to install the kit on his car, and found that some of the plumbing pieces weren't correct. In light of everything that he told me about that deal, I don't think that the so called business ever had any instructions for that kit. It sounded to me like it was a very shady fly-by-night operation (the business I mean).
