Some of you may remember I spoke earlier about the springs pushing up in the rear of my drivers seat-well today I went to frdwrnch's shop( he is Service Mgr. at local L/M dealership-here are the results and he is memebr of our Carolina Marauders) --ok -sorry - I did not bring my camera- can't believe I left it at home--it would make it much easier to see/understand)

1. Removal of the OEM drivers seat cushion from the earily build MM (June '02) showed the rear part of the cushion had been pushed down in between the rear springs (rectangles); in between these bed type springs there are two parallel rods that make the separation form for our "seat"....ok

2. SO.,really the springs were felt due to the cushion being below the springs.....

3. Enter the new cushion ordered for the MM--a quick check reveals it is at least 2-3 inches longer--thus problem eliminated--

4. The new cushion extends out farther then OEM in the rear and it cannot fall in between the springs to cause the springs to be felt or push upward to the leather...got it so far!!

..oh yeah---found the underside of my seat was "stapled" with an "office" stapler to keep my corners together along with some duck tape elewhere as well..truely had to be the first several hundreds MM down the line ..cause they found the problem later......probably by the '04 time period----

So if you have an earlier build '03---you most likely have a "short" cushion and need a longer one--- but by now--everyone is pass their warranty periond --cost about 275 --mine was warranty --so hope you catch yours in time--maybe it's already to late for some--donno!!...Tom

Had my cushion replaced last summer, June-02 build. My dealer sent it out to a custom upholstery shop and had them rebuild the cushion. No charge!!

With the old cushion was it made that way or did it just compact that small (meaning it went down below the spring and couldn't be pulled back up)and you had to replace the whole cushion?and did you replaced it with an 04?

Some are under the miles? Factory warranty is 3 years/36,000 miles.
So if your not over miles then your good till June '05:)

..apparently the design folks didn't realize the short cushion would push thru the springs ..and no --since it's under the leather, you cannot pull it back up--you just feel the metal pushing up.....

.......replacement was with whatever the newer "replacement" order item was--..but it was definitely longer--we put them side by side----.

....was it an '04---Who knows---doesn't matter--it was longer --that is what was needed//maybe it was the '04 version --since it was apparently identified somewhere and corrected --cause it was longer when ordered to replace mine--.

HOpe this answered your Q's!!!.........Tom

Funny I never had any seat problems:confused:
.......well some people would say thats because you fill it up too so well.....but just the same --you should check it ...if within coverage....it's noticable visually too----get a newer cushion anyway if you can ----it's gonna happen sooner or later on the earlier builds anyway.....Tom....

Jim - IMO If FMC got it right the first time they wouldn't have to repair, repaint or replace any parts. :(
