The not so well kept secret... The Dodge Chargers equipped with Hemis (340 HP / 390 TQ) will reportedly go from 0-60 in 6.0 seconds.
:burn:
For the most part, it seems like Dodge has figured out the answer to performance... Throw the Hemi engine into every vehicle they produce. Now, if only they could make something that looked good, I'd actually care:puke:

Why they made it a four-door is beyond me  The Charger will always be an orange car, with the union jack up top, the doors welded shut and two redneck cousins inside.:D

Jeeezzzz... What the heck did they smoke? That is butt ugly! :puke: The rear quarters might have worked but what is that front end? Apparently they thought grafting the front of a RAM truck on there might work? What the... Maybe they figured since it was going to go like stink it should look the part?

We should all know why this thing looks ugly...every car manufacturer has a certain style they like to keep all of their trucks/cars at, so when you look at one vehicle to the next you can say, "that must be a dodg," or "that must be a chevy."
Dodge just took the magnum slapped a few different body panels on it, and a different engine too, and you have one butt ugly car that everyone will know what manufacturer it's from. :)

If it's only a 5.7L Hemi with 340 HP then it isn't even a different engine, just a lighter car with the same engine, and that's a maybe on if it's lighter or not.
Makes me wonder why the heck they even bothered. The 300C is the same damn car, and we all know how disappointing they have been performance-wise. Just ask the owners.

Apparently, Dodge is taking some heat (rightfully so), for the 4-door:
Autoweek had this to say (http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=101327)
The Chrysler group's revival of the Charger name on a Dodge sedan is generating "hate mail," says a senior executive. Production of the 2006 model starts in January, but correspondence is voluminous opposing the name on a four-door, says Trevor Creed, Chrysler senior vice president of design. The naysayers, writing primarily via e-mail, champion various Charger coupes that ran from 1966 through 1978 and from 1982 through 1987, Creed says. "They all think their Charger is the real thing."
Now THIS is a Dodge that I would drive. Too bad all the ones they put on the road lack the class, or hi-po look of the prototypes...

Actually, if I remember correctly, the 1999 concept was a 4 door. If you look closely at the pics, you can see the rear doors. The idea was to make a 4 door that looked like a 2 door. Must have worked!:D I agree, though. The concept looks so much better than the reality, Ram 4 door Sedan.

Whether you like it, hate it, or have mixed emotions, give them (and General Motors) credit for doing something instead of offering a less costly version of a Volvo with poor performance, the 500 and Montego.
Looks a little Maxima-ish from the rear.

Dodge says that the Charger will be running...
January 10, 2005, 12:28 PM[/i]]
DETROIT (AP) -- NASCAR great Richard Petty had a bit of advice Monday for Chrysler president and chief executive Dieter Zetsche as he helped the company unveil the revival of its historic Dodge Charger nameplate.
"If you want to be a part of the Dodge legend, you have to look the part," Petty told Zetsche and NASCAR rookie of the year Kasey Kahne, who will drive the NASCAR version of the car in Nextel Cup competition.
Zetsche and Kahne then joined Petty in donning cowboy hats and sunglasses, a Petty trademark.
Kahne drove a NACAR version of the Charger on stage at the North American International Auto Show. During the unveiling, its wheels were switched with street tires and its body removed to reveal the production car.
The company announced last year that the Charger would replace the Intrepid in NASCAR in 2005. Thirty-seven of Petty's all-time record 200 victories and three of his seven championships came in Chargers.
Looking to feed Americans' appetites for heightened horsepower, Chrysler harkened back to the muscle car days of the 1960s as inspiration for the sporty sedan. The rear-wheel-drive Dodge Charger is scheduled to go on sale this summer.
The Charger is part of a product offensive at the U.S.-based division of DaimlerChrysler AG that includes 25 new or redesigned cars and trucks by the end of 2006. It also will be the latest in a number of new high-performance vehicles that cater to drivers who crave high horsepower. Pricing hasn't been announced, but estimates range from $25,000 to about $30,000.

I agree. Dodge is committing an unforgivable sacriledge, to put out a Charger that looks like that. The 4.7L-CNG twin-turbo concept put out a few years back paid infinitely better homage to the original, and the 4-dr design change would have been allowable---if they'd actually used the concept's lines. But this...fouled-up ABORTION...of an automobile,...this is tragic.
Those dimwits at Dodge oughta be beaten with a set of their own Hemi connecting rods... :mad2:

The old 300M from last year you know? That's what the Chargers trunk looks like for sure. I thought it when I first saw those pics, then saw one on the road today. I wonder if it's the same part! Way too lame for a charger although the 300M was a decent looking ride, for what it was. The most amazing thing to me is that it appears that DCX is forgetting (to some degree)the valuable lesson that Chrysler/Dodge learned back in the 90's. If people like your concept car, then for God's sake, make the production vehicle as close as humanly possible in appearance to the concept. Simple rule. Don't make concepts impossible to manufacture.
Pontiac blew it on the Aztek BIG time. The concept was car-based and actually looked okay for what it was supposed to be. It was supposed to be a vehicle that had the benefits of a SUV with the performance of a sports sedan plus new functionality. The concept looked kinda cool. People liked what they saw at the autoshow and so Pontiac built something else? They built a minivan based, underpowered, cost saved exterior turdmobile. Then they were scratching their heads when nobody liked it? DUH!

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=53 40You know, they were soooo close...This would have been one bada$$ car if they could have redone the front (ala the 2005 Mustang, a little retro with 1969 DNA), and with the Hemi, I for one would have been severely tempted. The car they are showing now, however, is one ugly POS. It might beat me at the stoplight (a big maybe), but it can never look into a mirror without deep psychological consequences (sooo ugly:alone: ).
