View Full Version : More Marauder "Easter Eggs"!

Being in the software business, there is a term we use called an "Easter Egg". In the context of software, an Easter Egg is a hidden feature or novelty that the programmers have put in their software. In general, it is any hidden, entertaining thing that a creator hides in their creation only for their own personal reasons. This can be anything from a hidden list of the developers, to hidden commands, to jokes, to funny animations.

Now .. to my point! In the past several days, I have discovered two things that I didn't know I could do with my Marauder. They are as follows:

1) Have my radio automatically get louder as I go faster and softer as I slow down.
2) Changing the settings to set the shut off delay of the auto-lamps.

I call these Easter Eggs because I haven't seen anything relating to these two topics either in the owner's manual or the accompanying CD. So .. they are in fact undocumented or hidden features.

So ... my questions are:

1) How many more "Easter Eggs" are there
2) Where do people find information on these features (apart from this site :))?
3) Why doesn't the owner's manual cover these features?

Thanks a bunch.

When the radio is on hold down the on/off button for about 5-6 seconds the display will show speed volume followed by a number that you can change between 1 and 7 with the select control. The greater the number the more of a change in volume between slow and fast.:Dhttp://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4082

You read the manual? When I bought my Marauder the next weekend was scheduled for the "Burning of the Manual" ceremony. It was touching. We had all of the usual rituals, dancing in the firelight, singing auto jingles, lying to the anthropologists.

Try it.

Another Easter egg. If the radio station bothers to send it the radio displays the artist and song title. Haven't found a station around here that does it, but the last time I was in Memphis, it started displaying.

I found this as well.....

Also, I discovered our cd player will play home burnt cd-r's if the recording speed is compatible.

That was a deal breaker for me. I probably wouldn't have bought the car if hadn't played my CD-Rs.

There's a couple more easter eggs to find too. If you're on an radio station, and hold down buttons 3 and 6 for 5 seconds, it'll put it in diagnostic mode. You can then use buttons 1-6 for the diagnostic tests.

There is also a heating/cooling system diagnostic, but I'll let you search for it ;)

Hey a little help with the top #2 item, please. We have a open thread in the garage section looking for how to adjust the "headlight off time delay" and have not found how to do it, still a big mistery. Thanks

OK .... hold the volume button in for about 2-3 seconds. The speed volume menu should appear. Turn the knob to whatever speed condition you want. I am set at 4. Some like 7. That's it .... that's all there is. Volume adjusts appropriately as you increase or decrease speed. Great, huh???

Tim,

Here are the instructions:

Turn the headlamp switch to OFF.
Turn the ignition to RUN and then back to OFF.
Turn the headlamps switch to Autolamp position.
Wait the desired amount of time for delay, then turn the headlamp switch to off.
Steps 1 to 3 need to be performed within 10 seconds.
Hope this helps.

I don't believe the owner's manual covers the supply of spare rubber bands under the hood either.
These can be wicked handy too.

No shat!!!

I think we even have a rubberband thread here somewhere.

When Kieth picked up his new 300A, I was pulling them off like I put them there myself!

Is there a way to set a 'power delay' after ingition cut off which would supply power to Accessories and windows for a short time?

My Buick had this and I liked it very much.

Thanks,

David

Lincoln LS as well....

Very handy at the park having windows down, radio on, and key out of the ignition.

I am currently working on this delayed accessory mod for the Vic. I'll post up once it is completed.
