View Full Version : It's official!

The word is out, and it's official!
mm.net will be sponsoring the MCM festivities, just to what extent is all that's to be determined.
I simply do not have the personal drive to take on an independant MVIII for a 3rd time, it's an enormous time commitment.
Dave and the rest of MCM has gone out of their way to turn the dream cruise into a spectacular Marauder event. So, if they want to call it Marauderville III, I'm flattered and sounds like a great plan to me.
I had planned to do something in the south, but I just am not going to have the time to do it properly, so I'll do everything I can to support MCM.
There, that's the official word. Carry on.
:)
Now...Who's going?

It would help if we knew when and where this is. I know it's probably in another thread somewhere, but it's nice to put the date and location on invitations.
Just a thought.

Here is what we (Motor City Marauders) are planning:
Wednesday, August 17, 2005.
Marauder Dyno Day at Alternative Auto hosted by Lidio. This would include Dyno runs, Dyno tuning, and possibly minor Marauder mods set up in advance. This dyno day resulted in great results and the desire to hold at least two Marauder Dyno Days a year. Here is some info on what we did this year.
Dyno Day Link 1 (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9708)
Dyno Day Link 2 (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10226)
Thursday, August 18, 2005.
We rent the 1/4 mile track at Milan Michigan for some test and tune, and do some Marauder only Bracket Racing. This would be very simular to what was done in Indy at MVII this year. Cost will be nominal, and may be picked up by sponsors.
Friday, August 19, 2005.
Ned Nuss expressed the desire to host Marauders at the Ford Proving Ground again this year. This included some tours, rides with Ford Test drivers on the test track, displays of Ford cars, included the 05 Mustang, Ford GT, supercharged Lap of America Lincoln LS, etc. This year they also offered tours of the new Rouge factory. This was one of the highest rated events the Motor City Marauders hosted this summer. Check out the links for info:

This is the big event, the big day, the Woodward Dream Cruise. I really cant say more about it than that. You either understand what its all about, the BIGGEST one day car event in the WORLD. And you will have a front row seat for you and your Marauder. We will own a restraunt's entire parking lot, and it will be ours alone, no squatters. You will be able to come and go cruising whenever you like and not loose your spot. We are trying to get Mercury or Ford to sponsor here to help out. This is where Steve Babcock says sheer numbers of people attending will help in that area. I have arranged in advance more television coverage, including the possiblity of one of the local stations broadcasting live from our display! Here are some links to our event this year:

Sunday, August 21, 2005.
The possibility of having a nice breakfast in the morning is easy to put together if there is interest. But I have been working on hooking up with the Michigan Chapter of the Shelby American Club (SAAC), and the Motor City Terminators (Mustang Cobra Club), and doing the open track Sessions at Michigan International Speedway again on this day. This is only in the planning stages and depends on interest. This was the other of the Motor City Marauders events that people rated the BEST event of the year. Check out the info and Pictures from this years open track event at MIS:
Open Track Sessions at Michigan International Speedway. (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8969)
This is the tentative events lineup for the Week of the 2005 Woodward Dream Cruise, Steve Babcock thinks this is a great idea and has thrown his support behind it. I met with him a while ago and he thought this would make for a great Marauder Event for the Detroit area.
The question is, is this a good idea for the National Marauder Meet, MVIII. We have a large group here to do the legwork, registration, planning, and setup to make this very easy to attend and enjoy. Not only are you talking about the biggest automotive event in the world, but other great events that people have talked about and would love to attend. Hotels are nice and within easy reach, Steve from Chicago can confirm this. The Detroit area has a lot of activities for the eveings, including the Casino's, Greenfield Village, Bars, good places to dine.
We will be doing this event whether or not it is MVIII, but wanted to offer it as a choice to the membership of MM.net to attend and name it MVIII if they elect to. Just a note to Logan, a lot of the planning would be handled by my MCM members and with the help of a couple MM.net members it would no headache to you whatsoever. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Too close to home for me, Can't think of an excuse not to make it. So I'll have to participate. :) Looking Forward to it! Simply too Cool...
Now with that said, I hope that this isn't the only event, additional regional events should also take place. The country is rather large and summer is longer than one week!
Maybe next year more than one group will bid in on the hosting duties and leave it up to the Logan's guidance and Marauder-Nation (Population of about 11,000 with "X" amount regisitered to vote on MM.net) to choose the action spot.

A few of y'all have expressed disappointment at not being able to attend and I have to say...Hey, don't sweat it.
It's impossible to get us all together at one time, in one place. If you cannot make this National event, there will be other regional events planned throughout the season that you can make. Last season, it was very busy for us all, there was something happening somewhere almost every weekend.
For the record, I posted this poll to give MV-III planners an early heads up on possible attendence. If you vote yes here and cannot make it because something else came up over the next 8 months, it's cool. Ditto if you voted no, and later in the season you can attend. Things change, eh? This poll isn't a committment, nor a shame list.
Please, everyone vote. I've been in the planner's shoes myself with MV-II, and it's no easy undertaking. Keeping our fingers on the pulse is important to the planning, neither will this be the last poll on anything MV-III related.
Just vote, K?

Man-oh-man, I know this feeling, Keith. If it will work for you as a resource, we have 8 months to get your very special MM to one of my garages for safekeeping until the event unfolds. OK people,
I'm signing up.
Hotels: just to let you know, my wife and I have ALREADY BOOKED the BEST B & B in Northville, MI!!!! Hint, hint, I have family in Northville!!!
My daughter lives in Northville!!! It helps to have FAMILY connections. I booked our reservations right before Christmas when the MCM gang first floated the idea of Woodward as a National Meet. BTW, EATON is one of the sponsors of Woodward Dream Cruise.
Now the hard part!!! Do I bring the BLUE one or the DTR one??? Decisions, decisions!!!!!
Well, I took the Blue MM to Michigan twice last summer so I guess I'll have to bring ol' Red this summer!!!
Cheers to all!!!!

This won't be a problem. We already have a lock on a block of 100 rooms at a nice place only 3 miles from Woodward. The location will provide easy access to Woodward, as well as easy access from I-75 (the main eway into Detroit metro area) and a great way to "get around" town all week without having to move through heavy woodward spectator traffic.
