"Ever want to drive a police car? Try the Marauder"

Headline from the Cape Cod Times automotive section...

Actually a nice review, by Ann Job of the A$$ociated Press... here's a couple of quotes:

"...I peeled away from stop signs when I wasn't even trying to lay a patch of rubber."

"...I found myself craving the deep rumbling from the Marauder's two-pipe exhaust system. The awesome sounds made it seem as if this big black sedan was surging forward with gusto, even if it wasn't."

Although she had most of the facts right, I think she was either driving a "paper" car from a brochure, or else she was driving the same car used in the infamous Mercury web-site demo...

At least it's getting SOME advertising...

RF- A similar article is in todays Newsday a (NY Paper) Quote: "A muscle car that's all business-no cheery colors, monotone paint job, cop car taillights and plenty of room for prisioners,er,passengers, in the back." This is very positive press, sales might pick up. My local dealer has the same five MM's in his lot for five months or more. The newest on being built on 9/02. John :)

A delightful article, thanks for bringing it to us here. I agree that it's not clear if the writer actually drove an MM, but that doesn't matter. Hopefully, this will boost interest in a fine automobile "with nothing in it's class," and keep it around awhile.

I also have to agree with the emotional connection made to "cop cars." After 25 years of pushing heavy metal around side streets and down alleys, I really miss that semi-hi-performance thrill of unquestionable ability and undefeatable power. Watch all the movies and "caught on tape" chases you want, there is nothing like driving the chase when it's for real. Wasn't easy for me to take the desk job, but it was time. Yep, I missed it.

First thing I felt when I test drove my MM, was that old comforting trust for the beast that was going to protect my life for the next tour, no matter what I told it to do. It's all right here in my MM, and now I can get it 24/7. When I'm on the street, nothing can hurt me, no one will beat me. Truck and busses don't push me around, no one cuts my lane, I go first, sometimes with a polite nod or smile. And, I don't need to take silly chances to prove anything to anyone at the stop light, 50 paces out, they know I win, period. Like a lifeguard at the beach, drive an MM and you own the playground, let the others play.

Big, bad, black, clean, fast, fun, nimble, reliable, trustworthy, and safe.

God, I love this car.

Sarge:

I am glad the post helped evoke those feelings. Everytime I read your posts about the MM I say, "Gee I sure am glad that I bought this car." Last night's 220 mile plus run didn't hurt either.

Can't wait to catch up to you mod's wise and see how I feel then....

Interesting...the Newsday article and the one in my local paper are not the same, even though they have the same author and the same date. The one in the Cape Cod Times was written from a first-person perspective (see the quotes in my original post), but the Newsday article was written in more of a "just the facts, ma'am" style...like she wrote similar, yet different columns for different papers...weird...

RF:

That's because New Yorker's tend to have a (much) higher reading level than the rest of the country. I thought everyone knew that!

Let the flames begin.....

Oh, OK...first ToddAlan, then WolfeBros, now I'm gonna have trouble with YOU?! :flamer:

By the way, I've given your e-mail address to SHERIFF and told him you'd be happy to run your Marauder against his Sable for pinks... :burnout:

You have an excellent sense of humor, RF. You can "dish it...and take it"...

And...you spread a lot of wisdom here and there...

RF did the Cape Cod article say the Police car has rear air springs too?

(it doesn't)

Each paper I guess edits the articles for space and content

"Ever want to drive a police car? Try the Marauder"

Oh God! Will it never end?

I buy a black 1996 P74 Crown Vic LX with fancy brushed aluminum "snowflake" pattern wheels, and people slow down and pull to the right on the highway because they think it's a cop car.

I buy a black 2002 P74 Crown Vic LX Sport with fancy 5-spoke brushed aluminum wheels and Mass. State troopers in marked units wave to me as we pass thinking I'm a fellow LEO.

I plan to buy a black Mercury Marauder eventually, and now people think that is a cop car too!

Maybe I should just go buy a mini-Cooper!

-Cooper
