Enjoy!

Just to let you know Mike, I had no problems downloading the video. It took 19 minutes, and I have DSL with a primo PC. My burnout vid is 76MB, over 4 minutes long, and is sure to please. If I ever get someone who has the room on their website to host it, then everyone will see it. Someone is working on it now for me, but because of the size of the file, I really don't know if he's going to be able to accomplish the task w/out converting it to another file type to chop down the size, and downgrading the video quality drastically.

That's correct Paul...everyone MUST right click to save it on thier PC first. With a file that is 134MB, you will not be able to host the file in a "streaming" environment.
Right click and choose "save target as". Once you save it on your PC, then play it.

From webhelp on Media Player v9:
Decoder costs $$$ :mad2:
Q: Are you playing an MPEG/MPG file?
If so...Please provide the following information in a reply to this post.
-Does it only happen with a few MPEG/MPG files?
-If so...It's most likely a file encoded with the MPEG-2 codec. To decode
this you will need to install an MPEG-2 decoder. Follow the link to more
information.

This is exactly the same thing that's been happening with the CD's that I've sent to some people of my burnout. The file is a MPEG2 which is supposed to be better for video quality than MPEG1 is, however, many people do NOT have the "codec" for MPEG2 on their PC. I do, and I know that atleast two other people who I've given a copy of the CD to do also, since they had no problems playing it on theor PC, but most people have had a problem with it. One guy played it w/out a problem on his DVD player that's hooked up to his TV, and another played it okay on his play station that his son uses for video games. I wish somehow that the software and PC manufactures would all get together and just come up with one or two file types that would be the standard, so that us consumers wouldn't have all these hassles!!!!!! :mad2:

-MatI'm not sure I have this right, but something that I've recently read seemed to indicate that you need Windows XP in order to have or to use the codec needed for MPEG2 files, or for SVCD format types. All this stuff is very new to me, and sometimes confusing as well. Much of it seems like a tangled web to me.
MikesMerc

There is no special codec needed. I think the standard windows media 9 or better will run it. It is mpeg 2.
If you need to, go here and update your codec (free download):

Billy, MPEG2 is the standard and has been since 1993. Some experimentation was done with MPEG3 and MPEG4 formats but for various reasons MPEG2 was settled on and has been widely used since. In fact MPEG2 is "DVD-format". In other words when you're watching a DVD it's MPEG2 files, (VOBs).
Anyway, for those of you having trouble watching the video, here's what to do:
If you have a DVD-ROM on your system, install the DVD software, (PowerDVD is a popular app for this purpose) that came with your drive. It contains all necessary codecs.
If you don't have a DVD-ROM then just update your Windows Media Player to version 10, (which you should do anyway... as well as ALL other updates listed on the update page). With version 10 you should have no problems watching any file type.

MPEG or MPG Files - Troubleshooting Playback<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
Reinstalling DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx?url=/windows/directx/downloads/default.htm) will overwrite quartz.dll and re-register the file in Windows. quartz.dll is the MPEG-1 Decoder that WMP will default to.
Reinstalling your MPEG-2 or DVD decoder would be the next step. Windows Media Player does not include an MPEG-2 decoder. If you can get this error for a few MPEG files, there is a chance they are MPEG-2 video. WinDVD and PowerDVD are two examples of software that would install MPEG-2 decoders that Windows Media Player can use. You would want to reinstall that application in order to reinstall the decoder.
Click here to download a free 21-day trial of a good MPEG2 player, (at least you'll get to watch the video):http://www.download.com/Elecard-MPEG-Player/3000-2139_4-10156005.html?tag=lst-0-1

I was told that MPEG-2 is also used for videos that are in the SVCD format which renders a clearer picture (better video quality). That's what my video has been rendered in (the SVCD format) and while I myself, and a couple others have had no problem playing it on our PC's most of my co-workers that I've burned CD copies for have NOT been able to play them on their PC's and have to play them on their DVD players that they have hooked up to their TV's even though these are CD's that I've been burning for them. But perhaps it's because they don't have DVD players on their PC's like I do since I haven't had any problem playing them. This stuff gets complicated........

Dave,
Launching Power DVD then choosing the file on my Dell did not play. But right clicking on the file and choosing "open with" then Power DVD played fine!
I am currently running Media Player v9 and will not play it.
Cannot figure out how the right click and open with only plays that way???

In the case of Brad having problems playing that CD I gave to him, I think it was due to the video content being rendered by my camraman in the SVCD format which is supposed to render better video quality than the more common VCD format does. And because part of the video footage I had was shot with a digital camra instead of with a camcorder, the latter part of the video was of second rate quality as it was before it was rendered, so that's why it was probably better than the guy used the SVCD format instead of the VCD. But you need different software for your PC to read a CD that is in SVCD format than you do for the more common VCD format. I'm glad that Brad finally got it solved, and was able to watch it.
