Driving back from Virginia over the weekend I saw a modified Impala SS that was "interesting". The most visible mod is that it is now a station wagon. I wish I could have gotten a picture to show but it actually looked pretty good and they did a very good job with it.

Uh, I'll bet that was a Caprice Wagon made to look like an Impala SS, not an Impala SS turned into a wagon. Those wagons are all over the place here in Texas. They're real cool.

Yeah, there's a guy in the next town over who "SS'd" a wagon.
It does look pretty sharp.......for a chevy :P

I considered that and it's still possible, but all of the wagons I ever saw the rear fender partially covers the rear wheel. On this one the rear wheel was fully exposed like an SS. He might have cut that out of course. But overall it didn't look like a SS'd wagon as much as a Wagonized SS.

The fenderskirts come off I think on the wagons.

Rear SS 1/4s could have been welded in.

I think Chevrolet actually built a couple of prototype SS wagons in the mid 90s, before production was killed on those cars. I seem to vaguely recall some pics in a few of the magazines. Those cars would likely have ended up crushed though.

The one I saw was black, it had the Impala SS decals, the grille, the wheels/tires, etc. and as I mentioned the rear wheels were fully exposed like the Impala.
It was sharp looking in its own way. It also, had a nice exhaust because I heard him before I saw him.

I can't tell you the years Eric, but the first few had the fender skirt look, then the last year, or two, all of 'em were cut out like the SS. When you think about it, it makes more sense to think the guy started with a wagon, and SS'd it.
BTW, that's a sweet looking 560SL you posted. I have a great story about a test ride in one of 'em, but will save it for later.;)

It could be either, a wagonized SS or an SS'd wagon. In the end its the same thing. And really my point is that it looked pretty good as a high performance sation wagon.
Eric
Yeah the SL is nice. It's a bit of a challenge to get in and out of though.

Isn't the crank system for seat adjustment a hoot!

I always wondered what that would look like...
If it were me, I would rip off the roof rack, and redo the interior with Impala style seats and stuff, and tubb out the back so it could have huge drag slicks in the back! that or put a bumpin sound system back there either way...LONG LIVE THE BIG BODIED CARS!

Kind of. On the one I saw the rear wheels were fully exposed like on an Impala, it also didn't look so bulky in the back.
