hello all;

I just had my back shocks replaced. they were leaking onto my driveway.

it took a while to notice.

I only have 24k and I am starting to feel something in the front end too, what fun

Hi Gregg. Were both of your rears leaking? I broke one of my rears one day and so had them both replaced, but I haven't heard of the stock shocks leaking on their own with such low mileage.

Since you are still under warranty, just take it in. Let them know to check out the front shocks, too.

(On another note)
Being from nearby, I'm surpised that you haven't joined us at Tower Shoppes on the 3rd friday.

Just my .02 and then some.

I have one leaking as we speak. I didn't notice it until I had it parked for the winter.
It's first on my spring list. BTW: I have 25k miles.:(

Do the Marauders have anything in the form of an aftermarket replacement shock?

The 03-up Panther owners would like to know.

PS

I am NOT surprised at your early shock failure. Ford uses the crappiest shocks at the factory. My 2000 Vic had shocks that had internal gas leaks on 2 of 4 shocks. Basically they have no rebound (stay compressed).

I replaced the shocks on our 2003 E-250 (with 18k miles) and one of them was malfunctioning in the same manner. The ride was very nauseating (van was bobbing up/down/left/right/forward/back) like you were on a mechanical bull. I replaced them with Gabriel Max Control (not available for 03-up Panthers or the rear of 79-02 Panthers) and the van is smooth at high speeds.

However, the funny thing is that I hear Motorcraft/replacement shocks that you buy/get at the dealerships/parts dealers do last a fairly long time. I am wondering if Ford's factory parts suppliers are low bidders that submit crap to the factory (that barely passes the spec) to maximize profit... while the parts dealers get replacement parts that are up to spec since the customer is footing the bill...

And PS, my experience with the faulty shocks on the 00 Vic (factory ordered) and 03 E-250 (factory ordered) also extend to our 89 E-150 (factory ordered) and 81 T-bird (lot car).
