Im Constantly Having Problems With My Front Tires With Excessive Wear On The Inside Edge Of Each Tire And Shaking Of The Steering Wheel. When I First Bought The Car From Varsity Lincoln Mercury A Wheel Alignment Was Done And I Was Given 2 New Tires At 4500 Miles Free Of Charge. Now Its Doing The Same Thing At 17950. Now Im Being Told That The Tire Have Normal Wear. I Spoke To The Service Manager But He Was No Help. He Told Me That All Marauders Have The Same Tire Wear. What U Guys Think? I Can Post Pics If U Want

There was an update to the alignment specs and fastener torque specs.
And your dealership should warranty all work it does for 12 months/12,000 miles.
So even though you are on the border of the 12,000 mile limit, if the alignment was done correctly, your dealership should stand behind its work.
If it wasn't done with the updates specs, then it needs to be redone with NEW Bolts and Fasteners...

My fronts were showiong the same "normal??" inner wear as most have experienced!! :help:

I upped the pressure to 40 PSI and no more inner wear and they appear to have very even wear now!!

Someone posted that for optimal tire performance run the Max pressure printed on the tire??

Give it a try.....The ride ain't too harsh either!!

The inside edge wear of the front tires is caused by 2 things: negative camber and negative toe (toe out). Caster is not a tire wearing angle. The outside edge wear can be caused by excessive toe in and aggressive cornering.

Factory camber spec is -.5 degrees +or- .75 degrees
Factory toe spec is -.15 degrees +or- .20 degrees
(BTW, this info came from their website which is updated periodically and may differ from previously published material, such as cd's and paper manuals)

That means your alignment could have -1.25 degrees of camber and toe out of -.35 degrees and still be in the "green". This will wipe out the inside edges in <20K miles IMO.

All of the MM's I've aligned (about 10) had at least -1.0 degrees of camber and always toe out of -.10 degrees or more from the factory. That's why almost all MM's you see have excessive inside edge tire wear.

For best tire wear, here is what I use on all MM alignments:
Camber: 0 to -.3 degrees.*
Toe: Zero degrees.
Caster: 5-6.5 degrees positive with .3 degree lead on the right side.

*Camber can affect cornering feel. The more negative camber you have, the better it will handle corners. Most drivers will never feel the difference, especially on the street.

I have a Kenny Brown conversion and have had my tires aligned by my local Mercury dealer and have had very even tire wear.

A long time ago, I did some research on tire pressure. I was mainly interested in motorcycle tire pressures (you only have two you know.) The results were, given that it will stiffen up the ride a little, put the pressure at the max that is stated on the tire. I have 14,000 on the Marauder, even tire wear. You could do a search about tire pressure, I think someone else address the subject too.

I run 38 lbs in both the front and the rear, and I have had pretty even wear.
The fronts still have lots of meat left on them after 20,000 miles,
but the rears only has .2" of tread left on them at the wear bars.

I've replaced the rears, and I'm hoping to get anothet 20,000 out of the fronts.
I've had my alignment checked and I was told that it is still within specs.
