I am confused as h*ll on this and need some light shed on what my L/M Body Shop has communicated to me.

Most people are aware my MM got punched in the nose about 3 weeks ago and is now visiting the doctor.

My MM is back in the paint shop as the initial paint job on the header panel and fascia from the body shop did not match the color on my car! :mad2:
I have been told that there are 3 alternate colors for the DTR. There could be PPG, BASF, Dupont, etc. Now, if there are different manufacturers of paint, I can see where the mixing ratios could vary from one to the other, but shouldn't the final outcome (color) be the same?

They picked the most likely choice and was much lighter than the OEM color. They mixed another alternate to find too much metallic in the paint, then one was too dark.

The exterior paint code on the door reads: "JL" which is what the body shop mixed by and wasn't even close. (See attached thumbnail).

Has anyone heard of this or am I being jerked around? :alone:

Mike.

Mike,

Color matching is just as much of an art as laying the paint. The different brands you mention vary in quality, but matching a color is an exact science. The boys at Team Collision use Sikkens www.sikkens.com (http://www.sikkens.com/) which they feel is the best quality out there. Don't accept ANYTHING but a perfect match...there is no excuse but lack of talent and lack of using the best materials in not being able to perfectly match your paint.

If the body shop can't match paint what else can't they do. Paint matching is a basic competancy.

That's what I was thinking.

At first, the body shop formean said somethng about lighting.
My response was "Lighting, you *****" Added that he was not going to get paid until it is 100% right. He has saved me my deductible, and parts had to be ordered with delays on why they have had my MM for one week tomorrow. For example, My fog light was ordered but was told the mounting ring is separate from the light. Now we are waiting for it to come in.
I want it right, and they will make it right. However, this job is taking forever!
How may times do they have to paint the damn thing in order to make it right?
Hmmmmm.
