Anyone know of a good place to have a total paint job completed in S FL, if so PM me. Advice on what to check/ask for when they paint is appreciated. Im sure it will cost plenty. Need new windshield also. If the cost is more than 6K, I may just take the insurance money and buy a new car.
Any one have any luck with automated car wash caused damage and getting them to pay for it?
I went through my local carwash this Saturday to knock off some of the dust, well something went wrong, all I heard was bam bam bam all over. (sucks sitting in your car just hearing it and having to let it finish!) When I got out I have over 200 chips on boths sides and top of the car. Chips in the front windshield also. Very easy to see on a black car with grey primer. The same thing happened to the car behind me, I tried to warn him, but I was not fas enough. We both went in and showed the manager he will have the owner call us today, hopefully the owner will make good on both our cars. If not I will call my own company and file a claim.
We all inspected the wash with the manager and could not see anything? I feel bad for the person behind me who this happened to, but I am glad that we have two of us at the same time, as the owner can not as easily ignore us and say it was prior damage. Anyhow 3 feet back my car looks great, just very small chips all over.
I have been through this car wash hundreds of times and all has been OK. Sunday I saw cars going through it again.
I am sure many of you never use a car wash, I may never use one again either.

Sorry to hear about that. But I am guilty of using a quick gas station car wash myself, I can't stand the look of a salty Marauder and the car wash I go to is owned by a buddy of mine (that owns the station) and it is a nice clean facility. Other than that in the winter I usually stick with quarter car washes unless I'm on the go!

I haven't used on in a while, either and won't. Where I work, we had a Mustang (96-97 model give or take) went through one of those car washes and it broke off BOTH mirrors.
If you plan on selling, Keep me in mind.

I am sorry to hear of your bad car wash damage.
I only will use the 'touchless' car washes.
Hope it works out well with the repaint.

It's a bad idea to go through machine washes if you don't want scratches.
I purchased 100% cotton towels at Walmart for use instead of a sponge (which picks up grit after a while). After each handwash I put it in the washing machine with next laundry to clean it.
For drying I use a Microtex Drying Towell, comes 6.5 square feet, works excellent. This can be put in the laundry also after a handwash. Those leather or synthetic chamis pick up a lot of grit too, the Microtex does not. I hang the Microtex towel outside to dry rather than put it in the dryer, it will last longer. Also purchased at Walmart.
Soap and wax is Meguiars NXT Generation, also works great and available at Walmart.
Keeping my weekend ride looking good for a long long time.

On a related note - anyone ever find a decent hose attachment to give good spray power? I mean a fine power spray like the car washes use (except obviously less power) and not the pistol-looking ones that "slap" water onto your paint.
I've been looking for a while. Don't want a pressure washer, just something that refocuses my regular garden hose water into something more effective.
Thanks,
-A
PS sorry for the :hijack:

I don't use car washes, brushless or touchless, anymore. I am not so concerned about my paint finish, because there are car washes that'll work ok. I am concerned about my beautiful polished and clear coated forged aluminum wheels getting scratched. Before I took delivery of my Marauder last June, my LM dealer washed my car for free. The paint was just fine, but my wheels have micro scratches all over them. They looked better after waxing, but I'll avoid automatic car washes from now on. I live in a L-shaped Condo building with basement parking. There is a car washing set-up at each end of the building, so I can wash and wax my cars all year around! I lucky.

Shell manager took some pictures and will give them to the owner, stated the owner will call me later today, lets see what happens. Admitted that they found 2 bungee cords caught up in the rollers, so 4 metal ends flying at ??? RPM's beating my car from one end to the other. Manager stated it is rare but he has seen things like this in the past, stated that if a pickup truck had them in the bed it can get caught up in the rollers.
I dont mind the slight normal use scracthes on my car that can be waxed or polished out once a year or so as my car was bought to be used as a daily driver not for show. I am in sales, so I prefer the convience of a quick wash to keep the car clean for customer lunches etc. I just did not expect this wash to put about 200 nicks all over the entire car down to the primer, bare metal and windshield.

Sounds like they will take responsibility for damage. If they don't, contact your insurance carrier. Most likely they'll repair the car, then go after Shell for reimbursement. You then get your deductable refunded to you.

Sorry to hear your MM got road rash injuries from the wash. Had my son's midnight blue 2002 Dakota pick-up repainted at Eddie's Collision Experts on SW 60 Avenue in Davie several months back. Son is attending college in central Florida and the truck's finish got beat to death twice over the summer during hurricanes.... this type of wide spread surface/wind damage sounds similar to what your MM sustained in the carwash. The shop did a good job smoothing out the smallish dents etc and matched up the paint very well. The owner (Eddie) also quickly (and cheerfully) took care of a couple of concerns I had with the finished paint job. I believe they are an approved shop for State Farm and Allstate. Best of luck...BILL
