Now I never thought I'd even be interested in this, I have always changed my own oil and filter.
But on the local dealer's website, there's a coupon for $9.95 Oil Change, up to 5 Qts of Motorcraft Oil and a Motorcraft Filter, taxes and Disposal Extra. So I figure this,
$9.95 Oil Change
$2.00 Extra Quart of Oil (if they remember)
$1.00 Tax
$2.00 Disposal
$14.95 for a Dealer Oil Change.
Doesnt say anything about fluids and others. There is, a "Works" coupon, that has Oil Change, Top all fluids, tire rotation and brake inspection for $34.99 plus tax and disposal.
At $14.95 out the door, thats a good deal, I dont see them making money, kind of like to get you in the door type deals, and with all the effort of getting the car in the air, draining oil, getting the filter out, the mess, disposing the oil etc, I'm almost tempted to do this.......
Would this be worth doing?

Who says they'll replace your oil? who says they won't rub your filter clean and leave it? these are the reasons I do my own oil changes...I don't trust anyone when it comes to that unless they're family. It's also a stealership, I just don't trust em'.

I would imagine the oil would look dirty if they didnt change the oil. Besides, theres a BIG glass window looking into their shop here, you can see them working on your ride. I always write the date and miles with a sharpie on the end of the filters, did this when I owned the shop too.

Wes,
Is that dealer really itemizing this? For instance, my dealer uses bulk synthetic blend oil. We honor the 9.95 coupon, regardless of whether the vehicle takes 5 or 6 quarts. There is a 1.00 disposal fee plus applicable taxes. As for if we are really changing the oil and installing a new oil filter, WE WILL FIRE THOSE who don't. As for the "the Works", unles you like to rotate from side to side, don't bother.
Just my .02 and then some.

I allways take it to the dealer as it takes to much trouble for me to find everything and go through the hassle of doing it myself .I used to do it all the time when i was younger , but 15 or 25 bucks it's worth it..Plus when you sell the car doesn't it look better to show reciepts of the dealer changing the oil..
Good thread Wes!!
Just checked with the dealer i goto online and they have a coupon $21.95 a savings of $3.00 .

I have a Hot Rod and custom exhaust shop about a mile from where I live. 2 brothers own and operate the shop. They knew all about the engine before I opened the hood when I first bought it. They even knew about the rear air bags shut off when they put the car on the lift. I bring them 6 qts MC 5w20 blend, an FL820S, They charge me $10 and get rid of the old oil.:) I file the oil/filter purchase receipt, stapled to the shop work order in my service file.
Oh, and whoever it was that mentioned Walmart was dropping Motorcraft stuff sure was right, I got the last 2 filters yesterday and the 5w20 blend oil was already gone.:(

I have my L/M dealer change my oil, and usually stand next to the guys and BS while they're doing it! :D
I feel if something goes wrong with the engine that invloves lubrication, I can whip out the receipts and put it back on them.
It also helps to spend out of pocket money as they remember things like that in time of need?

i went a local dealer and provided my own oil and filter (mobil1) they charged me about $7 total for the oil change. i could see them working on my car because it was right in front of the window in the waiting area. they even washed the car. so for $7 it was worth me not doing it.

I just bought 12 quarts of MC 5-20 oil for my fleet vans last week here in the Northeast. At $1.52 a quart it is cheaper than my fleet price at Ford or the local parts house where I have an account.

I have 3 full service repairs shops that work on the fleet I manage so I am well covered:):):)
I use to let the Ford dealer that re-painted my Marauder change it but now I just use a shop up the street from where I work:up:
Plus being a Ford Feet customer insures my discount when I travel:)
Mobil One full synthetic every 3 months. (or 4,000 miles)

Wes - That is sure a good deal. You can't purchase the oil and filter for that price.

Price sounds real good to me. I got free oil changes for life when I bought the car, problem is, I'm not home enough for it to be very worthwhile. I did Wal Mart a couple times, the Ford Dealer where my bro-in-law used to work when I was in CA, and a couple other Ford or Mercury garages on the road. When I'm in the south, it's either Team or Ray Pearman, both of whom I trust unconditionally. I've only had one bad oil change experience, I won't mention who, but it was near Chattanooga. They used the wrong oil, at a dealer, but did make it right when I pointed it out to them.

I go to my local Kwik Lube,... I bring my own filter and Mobil1. Costs me about $14 bucks for labor and oil disposal. I usually stand there and BS with the guys while they're doing it.
Even though a lot of folks wont use the 'quickie' oil change places, I trust these guys. All I had to do was look where they park: 2 Mustangs and an IROC.

And it aint cheap. $62 to Team Ford to have master tech Scott Levine do the change. Worth every penny, too.

My local dealer has a little sign that offers a package with Prolong, DuraLube or some other rip off product for $69.995 or some crazy sum....I wouldn't buy a key form a guy who rips people off like that.
You guys who bring your own to the lube place. Think about bring your own Amsoil. It's good stuff and for cars out of warranty it is a better bargain than Mobil-1 for extended drain performance.

I've been taking my Marauder to my dealership for my oil changes.
I leave a bag with 6 Quarts of Mobil1 and a K&N Filter in the trunk,
and it only costs me $10 to have them do the dirty work.
They also fill up all the other fluids as necessary,
and it doesn't cost me anything extra.
My dealership gets to oogle over my Marauder,
and I get it put on record that my Marauder
has only been serviced at my dealership.

When it's a free oil change, and service such as in the case of Barb's Aviator, we let 'em do it, because they check stuff I just can't get to. We do, however, take our own oil and filter (Amsoil) and they gladly use that, then put the oil they were going to use, in the back, and we use it in the mowers & such. Otherwise I change my own.:)

This is what I do, sometimes, as well. If I'm in a rush, and don't want to get dirty, the dealer I bought the car from will do the work for $10. Mobil1 and Motorcraft filter, every 2,500 miles.
Oil (like most auto-related expenses) is cheaper, south of the border. Doing it this way is basically a wash with buying the oil/filter locally and doing the change myself. Crossing the border when I stock up is fun...
"What was your single largest purchase, sir?"
"About 50L of oil..." :cool4:

...and did they in fact use a Motorcraft filter?

They pulled the roof mounted oil dispenser, had Motorcraft 5W20 and it, and there was a FL-820S Filter on the car......
They also Had a 5W30 dispenser, as well as a 15W40 for diesel.....
