I just got a call from my mechanic, he is installing my underdrive pulleys but has run into a problem.
He is telling me that the water pump pulley wont fit flush, that there is a "step" on it that is keeping it from fitting properly.
He said it looks like he could file it to fit, but he wanted to check with me first.
Has anyone else run into this problem with the Steeda underdrive pulleys?
What is the solution?
Did I get bad pulleys?
Also can I reuse the same belt or do I need a new one?

Thanks

Same problem here. I wouldnt mod the pulleys. I also have the clutch alt., so my alt. pulley is useless. I didnt bother with the crank. I'll probably sell them.

BTW, I emailed steeda to check the part number I had to see if they would fit the MM. They replied they would. They got it wrong!

call Steeda tech/sales line (954) 960-0774

Generally you need a shorter belt, but I haven't installed these pulleys so can't tell you for sure.

have had the steeda's for almost a year, no new belt was needed. As far as the waterpump pulley is concerned, no problem with the install,,,wrong pully perhaps???

I found this infomation searching the MM.net web. Hope it helps your problem.

I know the Bunny Lady already answered NBC's question, but for others who may be wondering, the crank pulley/harmonic balancer is HB 1476-N, the water pump pulley is either EP 022 or EP 023 (the other number is the alternator pulley, which is unused in our application)

Four bolts holding on the water pump pulley: 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

Crankshaft pulley bolt: "Install the bolt and washer. Tighten the bolt in four stages. Stage 1: Tighten the bolt to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
Stage 2: Loosen the bolt one full turn.
Stage 3: Tighten the bolt to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
Stage 4: Tighten the bolt an additional 85 to 95 degrees.

First off my air wrench wasn't strong enough and the 1/2 impact wrench won't fit because it hits the fan housing, so an 18 mm socket and the breaker bar work the best, you will need to get at the nuts on the torque converter to lock the crank in place, a longer 1/2 box wrench worked well. Remove the crank bolt, then remove the large washer that the bolt rest on (don't leave the washer in place) or your harmonic balancer puller will rest on it, puller will have an easy job of it. Use the larger bolt to start the new pullie and then take it out and put the washer back in and the old bolt and touque to spec you will need to move the wrench to the other side of the TQ to retighten the bolt.

I have the Steeda set from Dennis and the water-pump pulley fit with no problem...and yes, you can re-use the stock belt.

Same experience here, at least I used to have them. Took them off to switch to 8-rib setup.

Correct steeda part# 701-0004. This kit comes with an oversized water pump pulley to compensate for the smaller crank pulley in order to use the same belt.

DUH! :fishslap:

I have the steeda kit as well. No fit problems, and kept oem belt. The alt pully is not used....duh! Ours is unique. The pullies are awesome, the gains are great, and not using them because the alt pully isn't used is absurb.

Call DENNIS or Lid AND CHECK THE PART NUMBERS.

There are a ton of threads regarding proper pully install on this site. I printed them all for my mechanic before he even started.

I recall back in the day when we first started installing underdrive pulleys there were 2 different versions of Cobra pulley kits. The water pump pulley was the difference. Suppose this is an example of that problem coming up again???

My response was to the post regarding the water pump pulley.

the water pump pulley wont fit flush, that there is a "step" on it that is keeping it from fitting properly.I had the same problem. I mentioned the alt. pulley as another useless piece of the kit I have. Clearly I do not have the proper kit. There for I am not going to use the CRANK pulley (which will probably fit) when I can sell the pulleys to another cobra owner. I can then buy the right kit or buy something else.

The pullies are awesome, the gains are great, and not using them because the alt pully isn't used is absurb.I did not say I didnt use the pulleys because the alt. pulley is not used, I didnt use THESE pulleys because 2 of the 3 pulleys are useless. What's absurd is not reading the post correctly, quoting, and posting a condesending reply.

Have a good day Barry:bop:

I installed the Steeda pulleys on my '04. The box said the pulleys were for a Cobra, don't remember the part# or what Cobra years they fit. I'm not home right now (in Bethesda, MD, driving an '04 maxed out Lincoln from Hertz) or I'd check the box. Use the crankshaft and water pump pulleys only. Also used the stock / original belt. Have your mechanic check that he is installing the water pump pulley correctly (you can install it backwards). Put the water pump pulley on (don't bolt it down yet) then eyeball the alignment, flip the pulley over and eyeball again. One way will look line up better than the other. PM me if you need more info. IMHO pulleys are one of the best HP for dollar investment in your Marauder, so is a JLT intake kit.

Now here is good information! Let us know the part number your running. If it is the same that I have, I will take another look at my kit. I had March pulleys on my ole 97 Mustang GT. There was a marked SOTP difference.

It turns out the wrong pulleys were shipped out to me.
The vendor overnighted the correct water pulley to me and they got installed today along with my state inspection.

As others have stated the alt pulley is not used.
The crank pulley is the same in all the moduler mustang kits.
But the water pulley can have different offsets depending on the year of the car.

Thanks for all your help.
