I'm SO pissed. Hit by an "unlicensed" immigrant, that supposedly has insurance, but they've been dodging me for 2 weeks!
Anyone else have to deal with insurance companies on a total, or near total of an '03? What pisses me off the most is that I can't get a new one!!!
http://www.5150.com/marauder/No%20More%20Marauder.JPG
Right now, estimate is at around $10,000 in repairs and they haven't even opened the hood yet.
The dealer could only locate 2 red ones within 300 miles of Chicago that are new.
Oh well......just thought I'd see who's been through this before.

Well last I knew there was a brand new '03 sitting in Vermont.
I don't know what insurance you have... but I don't think you have to chase the other guy at all. Turn to your insurance company and tell 'em to fix it.
Let them chase the other company. I played chase the other company one time... it so much headache I will never bother with that course again. I pay my insurance company to take care of me... they can chase him if they want their money back.
One thing my loan company offered was a one time fee for "gap coverage" meaning that if something happens to my MM.... the total loan will be covered regardless of the market price for the MM. So I may not come away with enough to by a brand new one (leftover) but I won't owe any money to anyone on the current car.
Good luck on trying to sort through this mess.

You might have to wait till they get final number on you damage before they declare it a total loss.

That really sucks. Mine was bad enough and it was all cosmetic. I hope that they can fix it.

Sorry to hear what happened. Mine was crashed once because of black ice and the other time it was from someone else driving it. It's still being fixed today for the second time.

Good luck on trying to sort through this mess. I'm not worried about getting stuck with the repair costs. I have great insurance but I hate having to involve em if I don't have to....and I shouldn't have to.
I also own the car outright, so if it's a total.......I'm screwed.
I think what pisses me off the most though is that this moron.....even with no license, was just given 2 tickets....that's it. If his insurance papers turn out to be bogus......they'll never find him.
Oh well....just have to keep thinking of the old TV series "The Six Million Dollar Woman"....... "we can rebuild her.....better.....faster....."

I am with you to a point fudster...... you PAY for insurance and you pay for them to cover your car. My advice is you just get them to do the leg work for you.

I think remember you telling us about the black ice in chat. I'm glad to see they fixxed it. the damage you described sounded bad.
From the picture, your baby looks fixable as long as the right shop does it.
I would turn it all over to my insurance company and let them chase the uninsured motorist. That's what you pay them for.
Here in WA. uninsured motorists involved in an acident loose their licance untill they pay for the damage. Driving with out insurance is a stiff ticket by itself too.

Sorry to hear about your crash. Two tix are better than none. If it's any consolation, 9 out of 10 times I lock uninsured operators up.

I'm SO pissed. Hit by an "unlicensed" immigrant, that supposedly has insurance, but they've been dodging me for 2 weeks! I would guess that if they were driving without a valid license that it would void any insurance that they had anyway ( assuming that they weren't full of :bs: in the first place.)
I would turn the whole thing over to my insurance company and get the fix underway as soon as possible. Hope you had a police report on this and that no one was injured. The damage doesn't look "too bad" from the photo but probably still in the $6-7K range (if not more). Hopefully there was no frame or engine damage to boost it higher. Even if it hits $10K, the insurance company may not total it it you insist on a fix.

I have been in your position--as most older members know--and from the looks, it doesn't look $10K worth of damage--It looks very fixable to me-----as others have said--let your insurance company fix it and you'll be back grinning before you know it----it's the withdrawals that really hurt the most--Good Luck-Tom

If the operator of the other vehicle did not posess a valid driver's license at the time of the accident, I doubt you'll see a nickel from his insurance company. Most policies have a provision stating this. If the immigrant was unlicensed he never had a valid policy to begin with.[ BTW, I own an insurance agency.]

Sorry to see that happen, I wish we would pass a law in this state that if your an illegal immigrant without a valid drivers licence and you get caught it is immediate deportation time, no questions asked, oh that's right it won't happen, we have that pile of crap Blowjobavich running this state. Where do you live in Illinois? I deal with an outstanding body shop in Batavia called Boyce Body Shop. I can hook you up if your looking for a good shop.

Sorry to hear of this. Always breaks my heart to see a banged up MM.
I have to agree with the other members here, notify your insurance co. and get the ball rolling. That is what I did, and was handed a check within a few days, and she was fixed in no time. My insurance co. is fighting for me as the person (lying b*tch) that hit me claims I cut in front of her! :bs:
This is what we pay premiums for.
Just my $.02.

I assume we're talking about an illegal alien (undocumented um, citizen) Why don't the cops take these folks into custody and deport them. Here we are a nation under attack, and at war, and our borders are a fricken sieve, and all because I want to buy fresh lettuce at a good price? INS and the Border Patrol need the support and funding to protect or borders, and clean up the mess we've got. Solution: conduct sweeps of places who hire these people, and fine the hell out of 'em, and put troops with loaded guns and orders to shoot, on our borders.:twocents:

Sorry! Usually when the damage reaches aproximately 80% of the auto's worth is when the insurance companies usually do the "totaled" thing. Usually their idea of what the car worth is different than yours. Turn it over to your insurance company, pay the deductable and if or when they collect from the other guys insurance they will send you back your deductable. If it is totaled, be prepared to fight for a higher number. Never, never take their first offer. The guy/girl who is making the offer is attempting to get away with the lowest number ($) possible. Chances are unless you purchased "Gap" insurance or had a large down stroke, you are not going to get what you owe unless you fight. You can't be in a hurry. Last time I went through this, I told them "if that's what it is worth, just replace it. Find one and replace it."
I was in the insurance business by proxy. My wife owned an insurance agency. The insurance companies are in the business of making money and the least they pay out, the bigger the bottom line.
Good Luck,
Mike

In '88, I had a 71 Nova that was hit while it was parked by drunk driver. His insurance was AAA. When they told me that $600 was what it was worth I said that wouldn't fix it. It was hit on the left rear. Bent the bumper, crunched the tail light, kinked the trunklid, wrinkled the side up to the blind spot. What they did was a "Report of Survey." They called around to the wrecking yards and asked what they would pay for it. After an average, they cut me a check for $1407. No way was I signing over my title. I think what conviced her was the fact it was driveable with just cosmetic damage. Didn't fix it, starting out as a mechanic and spent it on tools. Traded it in on the Z28 in '92. They gave me just over $600 for it.
Seeing the prices for MM's on ebay, I'd say they're averaging $20k to $22k. It doesn't look to be that damaged. But just incase, get "buy now" prices and current bid prices, and state if reserve met or not met. Have that handy for the Ins agent. If totaled, I'm sure what ever you get, would make almost a payoff for one on ebay with only a minimal amout of payments.
Good luck.

That's interesting because I argued that with the Kane County officer who took the report. He said that in Illinois you don't have to have a license to have insurance. Who am I to argue with the guy who has the gun? :mad2:
I'm giving it to my insurance company and right now, the guy has a Feb 23 court date. You can bet you're sweet ass I'll be there with bells on!!!

That's a bummer :( I also agree at this point to let your insurance company handle the claim. A stated above they will attempt to recover your deductiable from the other insurance company. Good luck with the repairs.

(Maybe I'll dig my wheelchair out too!)The Kane County [I'll be there Thursday] policeman is wrong. You don't need a license to keep your insurance, but you do need one to obtain it. You can be an unlicensed driver in an insured car [if the car belonged to someone else with a valid policy] but you cannot legally obtain insurance coverage of any kind as an illegal immigrant. If such a policy was obtained, it was done so fraudulently and is null and void. Do not let anyone push you around on this. If you need legal advice, PM me. My brother-in-law is an attorney and lives in Kane County.

ouch, thats pretty bad. my mom had the smae thing happend a month ago. uninsured unlicensed hit her, all they got was a ticket, $150!! we went ot the court date, but that was just so the person would get a ticket. when we showed the judge the estimate, he said, thats another court you have to go to. now, my dad has a body shop, so its not that bad. now your car, i would sell it right after yuo get it fixed. it will be fllowed by many problems, since its hit on the front end. you know, theres a marauder at libertyville lincoln mercury. me and my dad were looking at it. www.mercurylincoln.com (http://www.mercurylincoln.com)

You may be their ............ but will he show? 2 nickels says he won't....
Condolences. Hopefully the Officer that took the report had enough documentation to be sure who the other guy was. If he didn't, he should’ve booked the guy. Living in New Mexico it's common to deal with undocumented aliens on traffic stops. If they have no I.D., license or insurance, I take them to jail. At least that way I keep them from victimizing another motorist for a little while. Oh, and BTW if we contact the Border Patrol they will place an immigration hold on them and then deport.
