A customer just bought a used DTR at a other brand dealer yesterday. He couldn't go over 14 mph or the car would shut off. They shut the traction control off so he could drive it. Guess what was wrong with it?????

The front tires were on the back and backs were on the front. LMAO!!!!! :banana2:

They sold him the car like that and shut the traction control off. They told him to take it to a Lincoln Mercury Dealer that it was under warranty. Not for that it wasn't. LOL :bs:

I've had my MM at the LM dealer I purchased it from and my local FLM dealer for oil changes. Both asked me if I wanted them to rotate the tires.

Damn - where are these dealers when I want to purchase?

Oh yeah, everywhere.

I would have asked for at least a thousand off the price (wholesale) and made it up / told them it was a computer malfunction and I knew a guy who could fix it. Then I'd drive it home and change the tires.

When I took ownership of mine, and pulled out of the service write up area, the shop forman (Steve) flagged me down. He knows me by face and after stopping he said the tires have to be rotated side to side as the rear tires are larger than the front.
I was already aware of that, but nice to know they were on top of things.

I took mine back to the dealer the other day.

I told them it appeared as if someone left a bunch of Cobra Mustang parts under the hood of my Grand Marquis when it went down the assembly line.

Extra cams - valves - etc etc scattered all about the engine compartment taking up space & adding all sorts of unnecessary weight ....

Here is what I want to know:

You say that it will not run if the front and rear wheels/tires are on the wrong ends because they are different sizes. (Don't fully understand that, plus car would look funny with wrong size tires).

If that is so, how does the car run if you have a flat, and have to use the Donut Spare? (or for that matter, if you have to use the full size spare on the wrong wheel?).

All Marauders equipped with traction control have the mini spare.

The full size spare on non Traction controlled Marauders is the front size and can be put on the rear in an emergency only.

So if I read you right,

1. If you have the Mini-Spare and have to use it on the rear, you must shut the traction control off.

2. If you have a car with traction control, and in error, you use just one of the front wheels/tires on the rear, you must shut the traction control off.

The impression I got from the original post was that the car had both front wheels/tries on the rear, and both rear wheels/tires on the front. Although this would make the car look strange, I don't understand why he had to shut the traction control off, as both rear tires were the same size as each other.

Drive with the mini-spare, and the traction control ain't doing squat, except getting you into a wreck.;)

The computer sees the wheel spining faster due to the smaller diamiter of the smaller wheel and thinks the car is skidding. The computer attempts to correct this condition by engaging the T/C

Although this would make the car look strange, I don't understand why he had to shut the traction control off, as both rear tires were the same size as each other. The TC/ABS computer "knows" that the rear wheels are supposed to spin marginally slower than the front wheels, due to the larger rear tires from the factory.
When the rear wheels are spinning faster than the fronts, the computer is fooled into thinking that front wheels are locking.

Since the traction control works by either cutting timing on the engine or using the ABS to pulse the breaks...

End result is that the TC is trying to cut power to the rear wheels until you "regain traction" and the fronts start spinning faster than the rears.

I brought my '03 in for it's 10 000 km warranty and when I got it back it did the same bloody thing! And this was from the Ford dealership that I bought it from!.
I love the car and it's great fun to drive, but this and other negative experiences are forcing me to consider selling it due to the lack of support in this one-dealership town. Ford of Canada hasn't been much better. They both are well practised at the skill of "tell the angry man what he wants to hear to make him go away".

It a non Ford Dealership that he bought the car from.. Well...

When I took The Wife to test-drive Blue, they had just brought it back over from the service department
where they were checking it over before putting it out on the lot. Salesman handed us the keys, and we took
it out on the road. 'Bout 15MPH, it just plain laid down. I notice the traction control light flashing, and
switched it off. Off she went. When we got back, I told the salesman something was wrong with
the traction control. I then recalled the first time I saw the car, the wheels were off, and then it occurred
to me. Yep, fronts and rears swapped. Major embarrassment for the service department at this
rather large Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership. And yes, they've sold several Marauders. Guess the guys
on the used car prep line weren't quite up to speed...
