In some states it is required to turn on your headlights if your wipers are on or its raining.

New York is one. Wipers on = Lights on

Autolamp control

The autolamp system provides light sensitive automatic on-off control of the exterior lights normally controlled by the headlamp control.

The autolamp system also keeps the lights on for a predetermined period of time after the ignition switch is turned to OFF.

To turn autolamps on, rotate the control counterclockwise to the next position from OFF.
To turn autolamps off, rotate the control clockwise past OFF to the parking lamp position , then back to OFF.
The headlamps will also turn on when the windshield wipers are activated, after a 10–20 second delay.

MM03MOK,

Great information to those of us who don't yet have a MM but will buy one when we can. Once I get mine, I will be sure to set the lights to come on by themselves when it starts to get dark. My 02 Continental has this feature without me having to set it. I'm so used to it, that I almost forgot how to switch on the headlights manualy. I have a friend with a MM and I don't think he knows about this. (Curses on him, because since I drove his MM, I want one bad).

To turn autolamps on, rotate the control counterclockwise to the next position from OFF.
Your lights will come on after the wipers are turned on.

Mary, this feature is independent of the autolamps. It's a separate feed from the wiper motor to the light module.

If your lights come on when you trun the wipers on (with auto-lamps off) then you have a bad module under the dash happened to mine car year. If fact I had wipers coming on when ever and lights that would only turn off with the key:confused:
Turned out it was a bad module (2).

I've noticed if is dark and the car is running minus me sitting in it, and the lights are on, the interior light will stay on until weight (my arse) is place on the driver seat, then the interior lights slowly automatically fade out. Kooky, huh? I just noticed it last week.

Hey,
Good thread. But does anyone know how to shut off this feature (not the autolamps, but headlights-on when you turn on the wipers)? i would suspect there is a breaker to be moved or removed.
thanks in advance
