I am just about done with an XM radio install.

Looking for constant power and switched power in the radio harness...

Anyone have a schematic with a color break down?

Tks

Post pics when you are done. I have been driving around with my unit in the console glove box and wires all over the place simply because I don't know where to put it.

I have pictures but no idea how to post them.

I put it in the overhead console.

I had a local audio shop install my XM. It's mounted a few inches to the right of the steering column on the silver bezel that runs laterally across the dash. Not a wire or screw or mount in sight. Looks like it came from the factory that way.

BTW, do you have the filter that comes with the kit? The radio doesn't bring in stations very good and drifts off with the XM on. It must be off. My antenna is a very small affair, looks like a shrunk computer mouse and is magnet mounted on the trunk lid up next to the rear window.

I had my Terk mini antenna mounted on the top of the car, just above the rear window. The cable was run around the window in the weather stripping channel, then down into the trunk.

I don't know about a filter.... but you are right about having the XM on and it affecting other stations.

I have had this setup in several cars. I have two complete kits.... but only use one "brain" so to speak. All the rest is hardwired into my MM and my TurboCoupe. I just unplug the brain which is in the trunk and move it to the ride that I am in.

I have run it with no problems on the Dash of my Cobra and my TC.... it appears to work (tho I haven't driven the MM) in the rear window of the MM. Will see how it does over the next week or so.

Guess I should add... it is on the package tray in the rear window... near the third stop light... fed the cable under the light down into the trunk.

I had my XM radio installed back in December similar to your installation, on the silver bezel except I had mine mounted between the radio and climate control, towards the right.

In anycase, as with your installation, not a cable in sight. I'm not certain what you have however I have an XM Delphi II. I was using the FM modulator to connect to my radio and was experiencing similar problems you described. Try selecting different FM frequencies from your XM radio to see if that makes any difference. I ended up connecting the cassette adapter to the XM radio as the sound quality is far superior. I tucked the cables neatly and you barely notice it.

Hope this helps.

The only reason I could see that I would want to use the cassette adapter is if I couldn't find a clear channel in my area. It has been so long since I've tried but I believe my Alpine XM has about 4-6 different frequencies. The only reason I would change my XM freq is if there was a real radio station broadcasting on that same frequency that caused interference. Here in the desert that isn't much of a problem. There is one place just north of Tucson where for a bout a minute I lose my XM because of interference from a radio tower right next to the highway. Other than that... no problems.

I thought that connecting my XM radio using the FM Frequency would actually get me a better sound quality, however not so. There is a noticeable difference between using FM vs. TAPE .. at least that's the case with the Delphi II. It may be different with the Alpine.
