Anybody interested in putting together a Heartland weekend meet in lets say Cedar Rapids, IA in May? Cedar Rapids is basically central to all of the surrounding states. I'm just shaking the trees here to see if there is any interest.

I might be, what is in Cedar Rapids for us to do? Is there a track there? I think it would be really cool to have a Drive-in-theatre all to ourselves and see some classic car flicks and get photos of all the MM's sitting in the Drive-in

I will check back to see what becomes of this, it's a great idea.

I'd be up for it. As for the question about a track, there isn't one in Cedar Rapids, but there is one in Cedar Falls (an hour north on I-380), they have open track night most Fridays and Saturdays. Here is the link- www.cedarfallsraceway.com/ (http://www.cedarfallsraceway.com/)

A quick look at the 2005 schedule looks like there would be plenty to do in May, including an All Night Drag at the end of the month. I happen to know there are at least 2-3 Marauders in Cedar Falls that would be in for sure.

Here is the May schedule:

May 7 2nd Annual May Day Team Race $100 per team/5 per team @ $20 ea
.......... Also Open Test and Tune/Gamblers ~ Gates @ Noon ~ Run 1pm
May 13 Friday Night Test and Tune/Gamblers/Trophy ~ Gates @ 6pm
May 14 Summit Super Series Bracket Points Race #1
........... Gates at Noon ~Time runs 1:30pm
May 15 Summit Super Series Bracket Points Race #2
........... Gates at 9am ~Time runs 10am ~
May 20 Friday Night Test and Tune/Gamblers/Trophy ~ Gates @ 6pm
May 21 First Annual Free Fest $10.00 to watch or Race!! Gates 1 pm
May 27 Friday Night Test and Tune /Gamblers /Trophy/Gates @ 6pm
May 28 All NIGHT STREET DRAGS (ANSD) Gates @ 8pm~Run 9 pm
Trophy paid to fastest street legal car and motorcycle. Grudge racing Scoreboards can be turned off. must have MUFFLERS. Sport Compact Vs. Domestic Trophy shootout

I am not available on the 7th, but any other day listed will work. The Friday nights are much less crowded than the all-night street drags. During the ANSD you end up waiting in long lines next to some guy's Yugo (think I'm kidding??) and the bikes get in the way (they race bikes the same nights too) Maybe we could select a Friday night or a bracket day - the 21st looks REALLY nice as it's only $10 for the day.

I'll be happy to help organize if we get enough people.

****UPDATE****

I talked with a Maria Murphy at the Holiday Inn Cedar Falls-University Plaza today, and have set up a block of rooms. They own the Days Inn next door also. The block of rooms is currently set for the Days Inn next door and the group rates will be:
$59.00 a night for a Queen
$69.00 a night for two double beds
Maria stated that the rooms are basically identical except for a difference in color decor, and that it was recently renovated. At the Days Inn we get a continental breakfast with the nightly rate. The Holiday Inn group rates are $20 more per room rate. The kicker is that even though we're at the Days Inn we get to use the facilities at the Holiday Inn (such at the indoor pool). The URL for the Holiday Inn is: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hd/ALOIA?&WT.ptvanity=redirect

Maria also stated that for $7.00 a person, we could have a separate breakfast buffet set up for us on Saturday and Sunday, if your interested please let me know yeh or nah (majority wins).

Regarding the race track there outside of town, the owns live in Minnesota and stay at the Holiday Inn when they come done, Maria has offered to touch base with them to see if they would do anything special for our group.

Maria also is sending me some info on a car group called the 4th Street Crew (I believe that's correct). They are planning to be in the area the same weekend, and they like to cruise as a group around the country side, if anybody is interested. I'll post more as I get it.

Back to the rooms, you will need to call the Days Inn at (319) 266-1222 to make a reservation under the Mecury Marauder Group. Reservations must be made prior to the 21st April, else you will forfeit the group rate. If you do want to make a reservation at the Holiday Inn the number is (319) 277-2230, but the room rates will be $20.00 more.

I'll be on a business trip and won't be able to get back to the net here untill early next week.

Any concerns if I post this thread to the Iowa F-Body group? They like to get out and do some drag racing. It would be F-Bodies and Y-bodies there. There are a couple of C5 owners that would come, too. They usually head to Tri-State, but I am sure CFR would be fine, too.

My guess is they would join on Saturday for some drag racing.

I was giving this some thought, (inviting others) and the $10 race day is a real bargain.

Enough so that I'll bet it is extremely crowded with everyone from everywhere. There is also nothing else going on in the area (as far as summer fests) on that weekend that I know of - all the more reason to go hit the track.

We'll have plenty of company, so I doubt you'll need to post anything. Last all night street drags (cheap race prices and anyone can run) was crowded enough that I only got three passes in 2 hours. By comparison, on an average Friday night test and tune I could hot lap it all I wanted.

I don't mind the other cars, but I'll bet we don't need to advertise to be crowded enough on the cheap day. Lots of HS kids will no doubt be there running mom's Celica. Or their own brand new cars since that is also commencement weekend for many schools here.

Just a thought. I'm not telling you what to do - just sharing my experience.

See, now, that was the kind of response I was originally looking for. Chance to show some LS1 and LT1 cars a thing or 2. I know one of the 'Vettes is a mid-12 second car and runs well. The other is a pretty much all stock 405hp Z06. There is the 383 Firehawk, 396 Firehawk, and a couple others here and there...

I am thinking that a Friday night test and tune (only $10 also - according to their website) AND the Saturday race for another $10 would be fun.

I think it would be great to meet up with everyone either Fri night after the test and tune back at the hotel or Saturday morning before the next races.

I want to try this track and see if I can hook up better with my drag radials. Last August at Rock Falls in Eau Claire, WI I had trouble with traction, and am hoping that this track will be prepped well.

Put me on the list for attending that weekend.

Nitto's are sitting off to the side...no rims.

Lidio said it'd be about 2 weeks...and that was last week. Soo...giving a bit of time for shipping...I'm looking at about the 15th.

My race season is starting early to mid April. CF and Rock Falls.

Whichever comes first!

I'm also planning on a set of true drag slicks. Gonna save the Nitto's for the street.

2.8" pulley, 100+ unleaded, true slicks and learn how to hook it up = 11.99 run...which is my ultimate goal. Its gonna be fun trying even if I don't make it though!

For those of you with extreme tunes for 100+ octane, M&J Oil in North Cedar [Falls, on the way to the track] has Turbo Blue on a pump. Last time I checked it was something like $3.80/gal. but I'll get a better number today when I go out there.

Well she didn't say it exactly like that, but that is how I took it. I booked a hotel room in Waterloo - 10 miles away at the most. If I can find something for her to do (antique shops, etc.) then she might go with me.

I would love to convoy down with others. We just need to figure out when we are leaving and meet up somewhere. I suggest Five-O's place since he is on the way there from the Twin Cities ;)

For the "better halves", downtown Cedar Falls is 5 blocks of nice shops and things to do for them. Also some really nice golf courses and even a nice par-3 course right across the street from me.

My arrangements are all set too. I was born and raised in Cedar Falls, my Dad still lives there, so I have a place to crash.

Is there a headcount/car count yet? From the looks of things there should be at least 10+ MM's converging in CF, maybe more. Anybody know how to set up a poll on this site to get an idea?

The reason I ask is that it might be possible to get Cedar Falls Raceway to set us up in a bracket amongst ourselves if we give them information like number of cars, etc. Maybe one of the CF locals can inquire?

duhtroll

The track is just off hwy 58/218 just North of CF. They have a cargo van parked out by the hwy to show people where to turn (on the west side of the hwy). Turn west there and then south at the intersection. The track will be on your right.

If you are coming from Central IA, that means you'd want to take NEW 20 (65mph) and get off at the Hwy 58 exit. 58 doesn't meet up with NEW 218 till it gets to OLD 20 just east of downtown cedar falls so don't go all the way to Waterloo just to find 218 North.

The shortest route is to take NEW 20 to the Hudson Road Exit and go past the UNI Dome on Hudson road. Take that to 1st street (it is a T) and you take a Right. Go to Franklin St and take a left over the bridge (this is OLD 218) and head north. The track is actually -on- OLD 218 North of Cedar Falls and is on your Left.

There, two ways to get there, take your pick!

Just so we don't get too much crossfire going, please post in that thread regarding the upcoming meet.

Thanks
