2002 Marauder Convertible Concept For Sale
from Steve on the 'mm.org' site
I'm sure most of us here remember that Marauder convertible concept car from a year or two ago. Looks like it's going to be auctioned, along with several other vehicles on February 24th at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Tim, maybe you, or any other members that live close by can arrange to be there.....I'd be curious to know what it sells for. I'd bet that it's the only one in existence!

It was for sale quite a while back, and if I recall correctly it was on ebay? does anyone remember that? In the Ebay description it said that it did not have any electrical wires in the doors and most everything was not hooked up just because it was a concept. It also said it would not reach over like..15 MPH or something really low.

The real truth----ready--it's all skin--nothing under it--just metal and tires---no motor--no under anything and no rear stuff--pic of car is probably chocked to hold in place-on othr side---clue--no one ever sees the inside and under it in any pics --do they--now you know.............

My understanding was that the convertible was a one-off model with a special VIN that prevented it from being legally licensed to drive. True?? :dunno:

And it can not be registered because it can't meet the safety standards. Strictly a concept show car.

I want it, even if I could only sit in it and look at it in my driveway. :)

Yes, but could a buyer rebody his 4-door MM with the "skin", and still have a legally titled four door?

Well....Marty is in Atlantic City tonight...I'll ring him up...tell him to go by....strike a deal....and maybe Legal Knevil can be a 'vert (with roll-cage, of course).

How about if the car went to one of those restoration places (or done by yourself )and the car was done up would it still be concidered concept?
I guess so got this post in a little to late Thanks for the answer Taf:up:
Does it have any other glass but the front? Wasn't there a pic of the motor w/ an eaton blower in it , i belive 335hp?
It's still a sharp looking piece..

Quite an impressive group of cars it is being auctioned with!!!
I know in MN it could be registered as an experimental vehicle. The trouble is in getting insurance. I experienced this with my Bradley GT w/ Porsch motor. No one would give insurance. :(

Wonder if the car has a top and raise/lower mechanism? Why would it, if it's primarily a showcar?

Good Question! I haven't seen any pictures of it w/top up!

I have the Brochure for the auction. It has the photo that is referenced & the description states it has a supercharged 4.6.
I'll be @ the auction.

My father and I built a Bradley GT back in the mid '70's. Had a Volkswagon chassis & engine. Had no problems getting insurance. Getting it inspected in N.J. was always a hassle tho... Had lotsa fun with that car. Silver metal flake on the outside, blood-red on the inside.

Its first sale on ebay went for 30k something. Wonder what will be recovered from that offer...?

Do you suppose that the person that buys it will become a member here? And then start posting threads about how poorly insulated there covertable top is for winter driving and asking if we have insulated ours, or how they wish it was a four door because theres little room for the hot babes to get in the back and wanting to know if anyone has modified theres to a four door.

At the unveiling of Legal Knevil. It's a concept car, not a prototype. The only glass it has is the windshield. There are no side windows, no convertable top. The door panels and rear quarter panels are one off's (iirc he said they were fiberglass) -- look at the picture again and you'll see this is a two door.
Though the engine runs, the EEC limits it to like 15 mph because this car has none of the reinforcing that a vert needs. It is unsafe to drive this car except SLOWLY into and out of a museum or show room or off and on a trailer. I recall Steve saying every time they showed it at a car show they crossed their fingers that it didn't break when they moved it.
So, this is basically a 1:1 scale model, never intended to be streeted or driven and thus money not spent making it drivable or safe.
You would be better off having your hard top converted by one of the better convertable aftermarket companies.

Re-tag it - oops, did I say that!
now thats funny . why not?
I was @ the Borgata for the auction.
I was disappointed in the car.
Again, it had no side windows, no functional top.
The owner stated that it was not structurally sound, the body could flex &
drive the quarter panels into the doors if driven hard.
The supercharged engine was NOT a 32 valve 4.6.
There was no mention that the car was limited to 15 mph.
When it was running it sounded strong & seemed like it could run fine when it was being moved.
The car sold for 45K.

Still seems like plenty of dough for a full size model car.:o
