Ladies and Gents,

I have a question. I am looking toi change the appearance of my Rauder buy changing the wheels but I have read so much on the topis of the correct offset. I know the stock offset for our factory wheels is 50mm on an 18X8in wheel. Well I am looking to go witha staggered setup of 18X8's up front and 18X9's in the rear. The question now becomes this...with a near stock offset an inch wider wheel will in theory stick out and inch. Not good.

With this in mind as the wheel gets wider do we need to look for a higher or lower offset value. I am looking at the ADR Version II wheel. It is nice and is available in our size. The thing is, this wheel has an offset of 45mm and not 50. Here is a picture of the wheel I am looking to go with:

If you increase your rims size by one inch, in width, you're not going to be sticking out 1 more inch. Generally it's half of that. .5" to the left, and .5" to the right. When they manufac the rim, at different size widths, they don't just keeping adding to one size of the rim.

That's true for the same offset wheels. However, you could add an inch to the width and subtract a 1/2 inch from offset and the entire inch is on the outboard side of the wheel.

Offset is measured from the center of the wheel. Positive offset is when the mounting face of the wheel is on the outboard half of the wheel (front wheel drive vehicles have high positive offset). Negative offset is when the mounting face is on inboard half of the wheel (deep dish type of wheels). Manufacturers are moving toward positive offset for RWD vehicles because it lends itself to better suspension geometry.
