Tonight was a night set out for my car. I have off work tomorrow, although I think I will still drive to Wisconsin and stay with the rescue squad for a bit and see what happens over there. Anyways, while strolling through the local Auto-Zone I spy these interesting looking bulbs shown here along with my cueball reflection:
http://www.mercurygallery.net/mmnet/data/500/1253newbulb-med.jpg
I guess these are Sylvania Silverstar park and turn signal bulbs, which I have never seen before, although I might be the only one? Anyways, new to me. Had to get em and put them to the test.

On top is the stock bulb off and then on. Bottom is the Silverstar 3157A bulb off and then on as well.

The close-ups:

What I noticed right off the bat is that the aftermarket bulb produces a much "deeper" orange when lit. Also when off it has a nice purple/blue pearl haze over it that I think is more eye-catching than the plain orange bulb. Overall the factory bulb is a tad brighter, but the Silverstar has a much deeper orange and looks better than the factory bulb when not lit. Both the factory and aftermarket bulb are Sylvania brand.

The other three hours were spent detailing my car. There is a couple pics in my gallery including my window tints that look darker in the picture than in person thanks to a not-so-well lit garage.

I give this mod a thumbs up! :cool4:

If you find a 3457NA, it will have the same socket, but slightly higher wattage.
It may look just as deep orange, but with a brighter shine when lit...

Maybe its just me, but the top is brighter. I honestly don't think the SilverStars are all that bright.

I for one are happy with my Silverstars (head & fogs). I also replaced all the 31xx's with 34xx's. Replaced the yellow front turn with a clear. IMHO looks much better.

So let me get this straight, you give a bulb that produces less light output than your stock bulbs a glowing review?

It's not surprising since everyone here seems to like the ricer SilverStar 9007 bulbs. Ricer = tinted and overwatted. :help:

Metro, I'm not afraid of saying "This product sucks, stay away." nor am I afraid of losing a few dollars in the process. But I give this product a thumbs up based on the much deeper orange that it produces when lit along with the pearlish effect reflecting behind the bulb when lit also. This picture gives a little more detail:

On a side note, I stand by the Sylvania Silverstar Headlamp product as an effective modification. Not because the back of the packaging says so. I've used them in my 96 P71, my 99 P71, my truck, and my current Marauder and I love them and I do notice the difference especially when the brights are on. You at some point stood by Sylvania Xtravisions as the best bulb and rated the Silverstars second place, I remember this from crownvic.net back in the day when we were talking about an upgraded wiring harness. But if you say now that they are a "Ricer Product" then so be it.

Personally I think there are much cheaper brands of bulbs that can be labeled that but the Sylvania line is not one of them.

Charlie, I have the SilverStar 9007s in my car and I can say with certainty that they are neither tinted nor overwatted...they make a brighter, whiter light than the stock bulb. Are they the absolute brightest and whitest bulb on the market? Probably not, but they're relatively inexpensive, easily available, and (so far) they seem to last a good long time...

I was wondering how the tinted / overwatted comment applied; I purchased a set several months back and they were neither ( albeit to my untrained eye ).

And as you mentioned bright, white light with visibility that is a VAST improvement over OEM. *Verdicts out on longevity ... haven't had 'em long enough ( 5 months so far ); but hey, if they last a year or twelve, it's still time spend with greater nighttime visibility.

*And No I don't consider my ride as ricer ( of course I did have to remove the rear air-foil and orange racing stripes ) http://bellsouthpwp.net/g/d/gdmjoe/evil.gif

Those look good. I never did like the orange bulb.
I found these APC's awhile back, they're TITANIUM coated....ewwwwww:P

I like them, and they cast that deeper orange as well.

YAWN... That type of flattery won't get you far with our group... :flamer:

I've got the SilverStar 9007 bulbs and I've been burning them everyday for over a year now and they have yet to burn out.
I drive everywhere with my lights on, and I've got over 23k miles with these bulbs.
They are brighter, whiter, and throw the light out farther,
and they don't have the BLUEish look that the ricers have
with their HID-wannabe bulbs that they buy in KMArt...

The SilverStar H1 bulbs while they are whiter, they don't last very long.
I've replaced them twice, and the element has broken both times,
near the base of the bulb, not the actual filament.
Stick with the Sylvania or GE H1 bulbs. They are cheaper and last just as long or longer...

The Silverstar bulbs are a vast improvement in visiblity when driving in snow. I learned this when I used Hella Bright Whites in my previous vehicle. I can drive with the high beams on in snow with out getting blinded. They are worth the money just for that.

I want some bright ass blinding lights for my high beams. I rarely use them except for road rage and trying to get left-left losers out the way. Are these silverstars the best choice?

I installed some similar bulbs today in my marker/corner lamps.

I'll post some pics later.
