View Full Version : Anyone have belt trouble?

My Marauder had to have some engine work done to it, and I think they even removed the engine to do it.

Now, the thing is eating belts! The top cover is stripped, a whole rib's worth is ground off of one edge, and almost a whole rib on the other side!

I bought a new belt, hoping that when I installed it, I could see the problem - but everything looks good!

The only things that I see that might be problems are the idler pulley (not the solid, rounded edge idler with no flanges but the one that looks more like a pulley) doesn't spin freely.

As the belt travels from the alternator to the power steering pump, the distance between the belt and the engine gets larger - if the engine is "square," then my PS pulley is "Out," or my alternator pulley is "in." It's hard to get a good reference on this thing.

BTW, the dealer said they'd take care of it, but I don't trust them. They took too many "shortcuts" and generally do sloppy work. I don't want them to make two more problems fixing this one that they caused.

Plus, I hate to admit defeat and give up. I ought to be able to fix it!!!

Maybe try a local SVT Dealer?

I dont think you have to go tot he same dealer for service. Any F/L/M dealer should honor your new car warrenty.

What kind of work did you have done?

The power steering pulley is the only one that has an in/out adjustment. Take it back to the dealer that did the work.

That seems to be the consensus of everyone I have consulted. I REALLY HATE the thought of bringing it back to those people. They really don't care.

I'll be lucky if my poor Marauder is EVER right again.

Bit the bullet and took it back to them yesterday. If they get that fixed, only a few more parts from the very helpfull Ray and Dennis and she'll be "better than new."

Thanks to everyone for their help.
