Has anyone sucessfully installed a FM Radio(Antenna) booster that worked. My radio seems to work ok it's just that poor design on the antenna. I have lots of experience with Pre
amps for the CB Radios which most of was just a noise booster because of the fact that most was trying to raise the signal 15 to 20 Db. I just had the local Ford dealer install an old amp that I had for years and it works fine until I turn the key on and then it picks up the computer and completely cuts the station out. I might try putting it on the other side of the console and putting a little distance between it and the computer. I was just curious if anyone had tried and succeeded about 3 to 6 db is all the amplification that is feasible.
Thanks:
Bob
I got the RF from the computer stopped by wrapping the computer with Broiler Foil and also wrapping the wires that come out the back to the switch that controls the program(Lidios Chip)mode. I also added a 6800Uf 35 Volt Electrolectic Capacitor to the hot wire on the antenna amp.
The amplifier that I used relies on the antenna coax and radio ground so that rules out using a inline noise filter which would go to ground. Any way it works good. Not a miracle cure but at least as good as the Windshield antenna that I had in a 2001 GM and as good as a rear mount on a 88 Lincoln Town Car. I wonder if some of the problems might be universal in the fact that the Rf from the computer has been a problem with Ford since the 80's
anyone that has tried to install a Cb Radio will know what I mean. Manual Tune until you get a weak station (One that the Stereo Light is Blinking on and off) with the ignition in the accessory position, then turn the ignition on you don't have to start the engine if you lose the station completely better chance than not the radiation from the CPU is giving trouble. Hope this helps.
