Hi.........
I have a 2004 with a Trilogy Kit, delta exhaust and some other adjustments. Its California registered. I've been told by someone who wants to buy the "corvette killer" that it won't pass smog and that the carb is not certified. ???
Is this true and if so what should I do?
Thanks

You should check out the Trilogy section. There are several posts on this already.

Jerry is the definitive source on this issue.

My understanding is that the Trilogy kit has not yet neen certified by the CARB people.

While new cars are not smog checked for the first 6 years of ownership, they must be checked upon transfer or sale.

This means that one must not do the mods unless you plan to keep the car.

The car would have to be put back to stock, transferred, and then the kit re-installed.

David

Is your car advertised in the Auto Trader for $38k and was on Ebay?

Is this true everywhere? Or just in California?

California. I am not familiar with other state's smog laws.

Hey William -

I was the one who contacted you via ebay. Here is the post by Jerry Barnes himself stating that the Trilogy Blower is not CARB certified.

Problem in California is that you need to pass physical (up tailpipe diagnostic) test and visual test. ILiving in Californai, I have heard too many stories about guys who supercharge or turbo and can't pass smog. I did hear that there are places you can pay $$ under table for certification, but that is not for my karmic path.

If you want to sell your car, I would suggest the following - DROP THE PRICE. You can buy a new 2004 MM for $25,500 and have the Trilgy kit installed for $7,000. When buying a new car then reselling it you will need to take a loss. $32,500 is high. And I don't think you will get the $38,000 you want unless you find a real dumb-A$$. You might be able to get between $29,000 and $31,000.

Now, where to sell it....not in CALIFORNIA. I believe California is the only state with such strict emissions control. Sell it in Nevada, Arizona, washington, Colorado, Texas, etc...

Personally, I don't understand why you would want to sell such an amazing car.

More on the CARB - you might want to email NAVCAHP. He lives in California and has the Vortech Supercharger. He has been dealing with smog issues, yet the Vortech is CARB certified, but still has issues.

Good Luck,

Paul
