Just got a quote from my F/L/M service guy for $1,050.00 - parts and labor - to install 410s in the Marauder! From what I've seen, this is A BIT high. FR gears = 200.00 on the high side. Friction modifier. Install kit. What else. Any feedback or recommendations?
I've been in a number of engines (289, 351, 300, 302, 390, 400 and the assortment of metric displacements) and manual transmissions, but not a rearend to change the ring and pinion. (Also pulled axles to replace bearings, seals, and the "chunk" in a '66 Fairlane)
I know the job need to be done with TLC. Since I have an Xcalibrator comming from Lidio with an additional 4.10 tune, I'd like to get the job done soon. Just not too many custom shops in New Orleans that don't serve rice.

$1050 is WAY high...gears from Dennis or Wes are $180 and labor shouldn't be more than $350 or so...the misc parts and lube might come to another $100...so $700 sounds more like it...
Maybe ask around the local Mustang people...we use the same 8.8" rear axle...

That dealer is ripping you off. I had my FLM dealer install 4.10s I purchased for $170 from Dennis Reinhart, labor, lube, and pinion bearing from the dealer was another $375. I also purchased the SCT 9100 tuner to reprogram the PCM for the 4.10s. A few months later, I had to return to the dealer to replace the leaking pinion seal - no charge. $1k is excessive. My experience so far is somewhat disappointing as far as reprogramming the PCM with the SCT, but generally better than stock. A major undertaking to get the vendor to modify the program to suit my taste in performance (not high performance), maybe you will be luckier with the results you get than I have been. It's not as seamless a mod as some might suggest, as I find that the performance you get from the reprogramming is not consistent on a daily basis. Ford will not provide PCM programming assistance at all for the change in gears. That's my two cents. Good luck with your mod, and enjoy!

May want to try another shop. I would recommend Futral Motorsports or Thunder Racing to see if they can install them for you. Futral is in Walker about 1 1/2 hours away and Thunder Racing is about 1 3/4 hours away in Baton Rouge. Both are very well known shops for Fbodies and Corvettes as well as they both do work on Mustangs. They should have no problem doing a install for you for less than that.

$460 for the gears AND the installation is more realistic.
My god...over $1000....:baaa:

Sounds like the dealer is quoting OEM gears instead of FMS gears. OEM gears will cost well over $500, close to $600 I think. Book time to do the job is around 4 hours. I suspect the hourly rate is between $70 and $90. Add in miscellaneous and tax, about a grand is what it will cost.
Like others said, if you can find a speed shop that does a lot of Mustang stuff, it should be about 1/2 price.

You can get the gears + labor, and a superchip with 2 different tunes for way less than that.

You guys have confirmed what I thought. I'll have to check into the shops mentioned.
As for the tune, I received the Xcalibrator today from Lidio/Alternative Auto. It was shipped to my office. Went to the garage, plugged it in, followed the directions, done. It downloaded the stock tune and uploaded Lidio's 3.55 tune in about 3 minutes. THe car drove much better in stop and go traffic. It seemed to work as described on Alternative Auto's web site. Tomorrow I'll get the chance to really check it out.
