i've recently been looking into upgrading the stock system, and i ran across this head unit that looks pretty snazzy.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-V7qr2QAKstW/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=62600&I=500IVAD901

my question is, does anyone have one of these installed? i did a search and came back with a pioneer one and a kenwood one that were similar, but this one looks to be the best. i'm interested to know if it will just slip in, or if any mods will need to be done to the ducting etc to allow clearance.

thanks

I think you should consider a different HU (head unit) if you're in that price range. The one I want to get is the Pioneer AVIC-N1. It does everything plus navigation and has a feature similar to devices that measure 0-60 times and g's pulled (however I'm sure it doesn't work as well as the real thing). It's also less expensive. My tip is to not buy from Crutchfield. I think their site is great. It's informative and good for research; use it for that. Then take yourself over to eBay or Froogle (that's off Google.com) or use any other website to compare prices and then buy it. You'll save yourself a good chunk of money.

For example I was using their site to 'test-fit' speakers for the MM, again it's great for researching, then I looked for the speakers on eBay and if they weren't about 1/2 the price they were anywhere between 50-100 bucks less. I looked up amps, speakers, HUs, and subwoofers...all much much less expensive.

yeah, i would never buy from crutchfield. i always browse the catalog and buy someplace else. i'm also considering the pioneer one, nothing definite yet. i want to do the whole thing at once, head, speaks, sub, amp(s), and there is no way in hell that i'll pay retail, especially crutchfield retail, for any of it

Nice but as said pricey.
Check out a download called Activeshopper.com
This feature will search automatically the web for other retailers with the same product. I found the Alpine for under $1,600.00 in 5 seconds.

Somebody installed a Kenwood DDX-7015. It looks good and fit perfect. Has numerous inputs for changers, GPS NAV, and SAT radio, and it plays DVD's. Thats the one I am looking at when I get to that point.

I have the Pioneer AVH6500- the pre AVIC-N1, its wonderful, and I installed it myself, so that the DVDs and the PS2 works without parking brake engaged......
