View Full Version : Overdrive? I think I have an issue...

Yes, I have spent the last hour searching the site and have not seen this question answered.
It seems as though I have an O/D button that is pure show and no go. No light to indicate if O/D is on or off and I cannot seem to keep the car from going into O/D regardless of what I do. (unless I keep it under like 20mph).

Is there supposed to be a light? The manual says so, but hey...I can never be sure I read it right. (not the brightest bulb in the house).

Anyone else have this issue?

thanks in advance, Curt

Every time you start the Marauder up, it will be in O/D mode....
to turn O/D mode off, push the button on the side of the shifter in until you see the green light in the dash light up. Then O/D will be off.

The light goes o or me when I shut the O/D off, and I can feel the car downshift if I shut it off while the car is traveling at 60 MPH or so. maybe you might want to try that. if you don't feel it downshift, then you should bring it to the dealer. BTW, you are aware that the O/D light is on the dask instrument panel, and is green, right?

How long do i have to hold the button down? I have held it for better than 10 seconds and still no light or indication as I drive it that O/D is cut off. I am dreading a trip to the dealer...however I think it is time to take advantage of that free alignment the dealer told me about.

You don't have to hold the button down at all. you just push it in and let it go, and the green light on the dash should appear.

Enough said then. I do not get a green light no matter how I push the button, when I push it or how I hold my mouth when I push it. Also, I have tried it at all sorts of different speeds to no avail. I guess I am headed back to the dealer. Dang.

thanks guys!

Curt, how many miles are on your Marauder?

I am sure I will get a few to try and choke me for this, but...

I took possession of this MM with 17 miles on it on Dec 26th 2004. Today, March 6th, it has 7100 miles on it. I live in Yuma Az and work on a ship in San Diego. That is a 186 mile drive parking lot to parking lot. So I have a few of those drives under my belt and then I also drove from Yuma to Pensacola Fl and back again. All told, I think I have nearly 6000 miles on the highway and a few miles of rubber twisting city drives.

Well then I don't see why you would have any problems at the dealer getting this covered under warantee. All is they have to do is drive it for a half mile for it to become obvious that there's a problem.

BillyGman,

You are absolutely right...but i just dont like dealing with the service department at any dealership. I mean there are so many other things I like to do and it just cuts out on that. As it turns out, the assigned service rep for me is one of my students from the local community college when I taught occupational safety and health there. He and I have a good relationship and that certainly helps!

Also, there are a few otherthings I need them to do to the car. The front seat has a clip that has come loose where your heels would be if you tried to tuck your feet under the seat while sitting in it. That and I know that I can get them to re-align it for me if I use the magic words. So all in all, it will be ok. I just would rather be playing poker, chasing girls or well, anything other than driving a loaner for a day or so.

By the way...
Your presence here on MM.net has helped me alot. Your mods, your posts, that BURNOUT video...all has helped me alot. In fact, I have chosen to model many of the things I am going to do with my MM after what you have done with yours. I have a speed shop in Mesa Az (about 180 miles from me to the east) that is currently helping me design the final product. Steve at 1st-performance.net is helping me to get this guy in the 12's for now with a long term goal of 11's.
My biggest hurdle is getting another car to do my highway miles with. I want to garage this little lady and get her pumped up and keep the miles off of her. The only issue is the sale of my house went bad when the man in escrow with me dropped out due to an undisclosed contingency that did not materialize...so I have another month or so to wait.

At any rate, you have my vote of confidence for your posts and opinons. Thanks!

Curt

Thanks for your kind words Curt, and for your appreciation. There are a number of those on this board who have helped me out, and I try to put back into this board what I've got out of it, and that includes helping others out with information about our cars, that I've learned along the way during the modifications I've performed. Any time that I can be of help, don't hesistate to write to me. if I can help, then I certainly will. And if I can't then I'll be the first to admit that, and possibly point you to someone who can.

It sounds like you're pushing the big shifter button on the left side of the handle expecting the O/D to go on/off. The O/D button is on the lower front of the shifter handle. Just feel around with your fingers and you'll find it.

WOW! I have 2745 Miles to date, took delivery Dec 23, 2004. The OD Off/On Button has wires that are the size of dental floss. I'm guessing one of three things.
1. The Harness is against the firewall and has rubbed part of the OD Selector Wire
2. The Button on the Shifter
3. The Wire has fallen off somewhere.

Let us know what it was!

If you grip the shifter to pull it into D, and then let go of the black button while keeping your hand on the shifter,
put your thumb UNDER the black button and grip the shifter.
You should feel another small push button under your thumb.
This is for the Overdrive!
Just push it in and release, and the green light above the dash gauges should come on!

Whew!
I read this and instantly thought maybe I was a bonehead...
The answer is no. I was not pushing the big button. There is a smaller button actually labled OD below the big shifter button on the side of the ****er handle. Thanks again for the thoughts.

Does your O/D light come on when you turn the key to the ON position and the car runs through the self diagnosics (Usually, all of the likgts on the dash light up at that point).

WOW!!!! 186 MILE COMMUTE??!!
3+ Hours each way!!

I hope that this is not a DAILY commute?

I've got a 2004.

First, with key on, engine off, first few seconds gives a bulb check, all the indicators on the intsrument cluster should be on except the O/D indicator, if not there's a bad bulb. If you click the O/D button on the shifter it will come on. It is a green light at the top right of the speedometer next to the 100 mph mark that says O/D off.

Second there's two buttons on the shifter, if you don't push the big one, you'll never get it out of park. Move the thumb down after it is in drive so the big button is is between thumb and index finger and it will find the small button. This is the O/D mode button. If you don't have a right thumb you can stretch the index finger toward where the thumb would be and find it. On my hand, it's just about where the last joint of the thumb is next to the fingernail.

Third, there is no indicator that the transmission is actually in O/D. If O/D is enabled, and it is unless you turn it off, it will go into O/D at 32-35 mph with a light throttle.

Fourth, most men read the owners manual for their electric shaver with more interest than the one for their car. :D

It's OK bud, we understand 'cause, you're one of us. :o

And Joe Walsh, check his state and you will see his commute is actually a 1-1/2 hour trip! At 120 mph it takes 1-1/2 hours to go 180 miles, not three.

Oops! I suppose you could have been talking about round trip. Sorry.

:D

Since buying the Marauder, I have become deeply depressed that my daily commute is only five miles, takes ten minutes, and speed limits are 25-30.

updates on the OD

Went to the dealer today. Met my old student and he hooked me up with alot of help. (such a good thing to have a solid relationship with my service rep!)
The OD button is not working correctly, more like it is there for show and not hooked up at all.
They are going to take a look at that, fix the front part of the drivers seat where the clip came undone, fix or replace the passenger door seal (glue job not so nice so it has a tendency to slip off).
I am also going to get them to look at the front passenger window. It rolls up and down sooooo much slower than the other three windows.

Also, he told me about a free maintenance plan thing. I did not spend enough time with him to get all of the details but he said they will change the oil for me for free along with the filter etc. cool beans!

Oh...and that drive!
I drive from Yuma Az to San Diego Ca to spend week days in san diego and weekends in yuma. Hmm what a drive. LOTS of wide open space...and when you just get tired of that...a nice big mountain with lots of nice yummy curves!!
Yep. 186 miles one way. but I only do it on friday and sunday/monday.

Man I love this car! Too bad I will have to garage it soon :(
I cant do these mods and still pound it like I have been doing. So I am in the market for another car. Anyone got a MM they need to sell me?

thanks guys!

thanks for the help guys!

I, for one, will not choke you. Cars are meant to be driven! Why own one, make payments on it and not enjoy it?

My mileage on mine will stay somewhat lower only because I have several cars (see sig) and enjoy each one... and drive each one.... so my miles gets spread out!
