View Full Version : Affordable Marauder headers

A large automotive company is currently in the process of developing affordable headers and exhaust for the Marauder. They are interested in seeing if there is any consumer interest in them. If it were possible to get headers for our car with a complete, cat included exhaust, for half the rates others are charging, would anyone be interested.

It is my understanding that unless there is an interest, they will not make them. So.... anyone interested?

I will have hard numbers on performance gain shortly.

If they're hooker's or headman's, count me in!

and get them to make some damn crown vic headers while they are at it lol. I may be interested just because I might be able to modify them to fit for cheaper than I can get them custom made for me

I'm in, would like to see the performance gains, and some notes on heat disbursement, but until then, write me down as very interested.

I was under the impression it has already been decided in other posts that the stock exhaust system for our little motor (281 c.i.) is more than sufficient, unless a blower, bigger cams, a different intake or what have you is added. What gain would I expect to see with headers and different mufflers?

Yes, but are we really EVER satisfied? ;)

I think it was LONG tubes that don't offer the gains unless blown.

Probably not a whole lot, Bob, with the N/A motor, but things won't get developed without an interest shown. Right now, at the current prices for custom jobs, there isn't enough gain for the money and that's pretty much still a sure thing. But, if the money comes down to say, maybe 5-600., for maybe 10-15 RWHP gain for the N/A motor, it may be worth the money, and surely worth more when producing 20-25 RWHP on a supercharged MM.

The development will take time, I wouldn't expect to see a "bolt on kit" with performance cats until the fall, but who knows, with the right interest shown...

With the popularity of this site growing every day, I think the manufacturer could expect to recover his R&D money rather soon, moreso, if it's a company that has 90% of it's work cut out for it, and just needs to add a few bends to another design to clear the starter and frame. It's up to us to ring their door bell, as it will be with the brake component companies, shocks, springs, sway bars and so on. As the car ages and we want to buy aftermarket parts, the more we band together, the louder we get, yes?

Before I forget, my thanks to Bill (Mensrea) for bringing this opportunity to us.

Mmmmm keep showing interest and we could see headers and exhaust pretty quickly... if you are interested and haven't replied, do so, then the manufacturer can see the response and get the ball rolling a little faster.

Speaking of shocks.... I hear that may be in the pipeline as well. Let's show interest and they will build it.

edited to include shock comment :)

The fact is there is a good gain to be had with headers on this motor, the stack exhaust system is sufficient with the stock exhaust manifolds.

It is the perfect mod on which to build all other mods, change the stock exhaust manifold and the systems up stream and down stream may very well need updating and would result in bigger gains.

I do want to see the numbers before I take the plung but this is and always has been the first mod for any car because the stock castings are always a compromise.

I'd certainly be interested in headers. Hopefully shorty or equal-length shorty headers that would bolt up in the stock locations. Price is certainly a consideration though.

If I like it as it sounds right now (just passed 10K today BTW), is this a definate "no go" for me?

And anyway, as my very good and knowledgeable frien MR. RFOVERLORD stated...

With a supercharger or other motor mods, I can see the need. But don't we already have a lack of low end torque? Wouldn't opening up the exhaust on a basicaly stock motor, even if it made some more hp up high, cause a loss of low end torque?

I now have shortie headers and exchaust for the CV

I'm in. Long Tube or Shorty? With or without hi flow cats?

Just the opposite, usually. A long tube design doesn't rob torque by reducing backpressure. Shorties usually increase hp gains but actually reduce torque, and with a heavy car that's probably more important. Not until significant power gains are made (big cams, forced induction, nitrous) where increased exhaust flow becomes a necessity, do shortie headers add major gains. For the same reason, larger diameter exhasut pipe on a roughly stock motor will usually decrease off-the-line-performance. Case in point, my Caprice made about 5-6 more rwhp with Edelbrock headers and about 8rwtq LESS than the stock manifolds. I noticed it right away as soon as I pulled away from the first stopsign when I took the car out of the garage. Something to think about ...
