Just got back from my Mercury dealer to see if they could install 410's. He checked for the Ford part for 410's for this car and could not find any.

I was assuming this is a Ford part. Is it? And what is the correct part#. Also, is this something that a Mercury dealer should do or should I be looking for a reputable shop in the area. aka Is this guy clueless? I'm in Dublin/Pleasanton in California by the way if anyone knows some good shops in the area.

Finally, should I install the Matrex drive shaft at the same time or does it matter.

Have them shipped to you from Dennis Reinhart. Call Dennis and he will set you up.

4.10's from Ford are too high priced. Get a set of Ford Racing gears for about half the price.

absolutely correct. you can get them from many places. I buy my gears from www.summitracing.com (http://www.summitracing.com) Just type in Ford 8.8 rear...that's what our cars have (same as Mustangs)

If I purchase this ring and pinion set do I also need to purchase the full installation kit or just the gasket?

The FMS set comes with new crush sleeve and most everything. Use regular gear oil with FM for break-in (500 miles take it easy) Then run full Synth.

Use a good installer, they need to use marking compound or pinon depth tool.

Also: YES install the good metal matrix driveshaft. Critial speed for factory shaft with 4.10's is a lot lower. Click the Alcoa link in my sig for details.
