I'm betting that they bring it back for the final years of the panther platform in 2009 or 2010.

They bought it back once ,you never know. But if I had to take a guess I'd say no.

You might take heart in the knowledge that Ford hasn't been able to stick to a marketing strategy for three years in a row since the 60's. Whatever is decided today can be changed in a year or two by the next team they get to rearrange the deckchairs on the Titanic.

After seeing the Mpls/St. Paul Auto Show today....This is my last Ford car.

Simply put.

Ford as lost its edge...BIG time.

There is no saving Ford for the car market.

The truck market and mustang market are all thats left for it...Oh..and the 500 Market for rental cars.

The Autoshow was an eyeopener to what Ford is up against. Its enourmous. I saw it...but didnt' really "see" it until today. The 300C, the GTO, the CL 230 + other Benz machines, the 3 and 5 series from BMW, Mazda's, Lexus......

98% of the GM cars are UGLLLLLY...including the Cadillacs. The only saving grace was the 6.0 GTO..but even thats difficult to overcome.

The BMW 545i, oh my gosh what a nice car. If I had the money now...it would me mine.

I love my Marauder.....but I'm getting sick and tired of Ford's crap.

I'm moving east in a couple years...and I don't mean NYC...I'm talking Berlin.

A new Marauder with a different powertrain and transmission:

naturally aspirated Ford Falcon XR8 5.4L quad cam V8, 350 hp, 370 ft-lb torque w/ dry sump engine oil pan to allow for clearance due to inefficient layout of the engine compartment

Ford T-56 6-speed manual transmission

Caddies are selling like hotcakes with 300+ hp and 6-speed manual transmissions. The buyers are mostly old rich people who want luxury and horsepower but can't seem to find the gas pedal.

It would be nice..
Its 5.4-litre capacity, 32 valves and double overhead camshafts per bank therefore work in concert to produce 290 kilowatts of power and a phenomenal 520 Newton metres of torque. So not only is there free-revving top-end power but a wall of torque at low speeds as well. In combination with the tuned stainless steel exhaust system, it produces the trademark rumble that lets you know you're driving a real, blue-blooded Aussie V8

5.4L Quad Cam XR8 Boss 260 engine, makes 350 hp and 370 ft-lb.

You have displacement, with 4V per cylinder, thus you get the best of both worlds: A high revving motor that makes good low end torque but good high end performance.

It's not the same engine used in the Ford GT. IIRC, the Ford GT uses a North American made 5.4L DOHC V8. The Ford Falcon XR8 and Mk 2 GT use Australian made 5.4L DOHC V8s.

I can't stress the need for at least an optional 6 speed manual in a Marauder remake. You can't have a high performance anything w/o a manual transmission or so goes tradition.

So far I hear the biggest problem with using a 5.4 quad cam V8 is fitting it in the Panther engine compartment. The Falcon is a rather small 4 door sedan, yet they managed to squeeze the big 5.4 quad cam V8 w/o using an ugly monstrous hood scoop. The hood they used on the Falcon XR8 is rather tasteful and reminiscent of the 03-04 Cobra hood (w/o the holes).

I'd say with 350 hp, a 4300 lb chassis, and a 6 speed manual, this Panther should run 13s in the 1/4.

A). It's Modern Muscle (370 ft-lb of torque)
B). It's an Impala SS killer (would have taken Ford more than a decade to make one)
C). It might make the Chevy and Dodge folks curious or envious. Caddy has a bunch of 300+ hp V8s w/ manual transmissions, Dodge has the upcoming 300C SRT-8. Ford has... the Lincoln Town Car w/ a V8 that thinks it is a V6. Even the Honda Accord Hybrid V6 makes more hp than the 05 Panthers.

Ford needs to bring back a lot of models if it is to be competitive: I 'd say the following:

A totally new Town Car/Continental with styling cues from the 1961 -1963 era
Some sort of Mark Series (Mark IX or something) Luxurious and powerful

Mercury needs to bring back the Marauder with a potent power train
To compete with the Dodge Magnum, maybe a cool wagon of some sort - call it the Cyclone
Introduce a new Cougar

Ford - Needs Boss and Mach 1 Mustangs

I don't expect Mercury Division to produce any performance vehicles of any sort in the foreseeable future. Upscale versions of Ford models, oriented towards families and older buyers, yes. A new Marauder, new Cougar, no.

Ford is spending money on high-end performance cars, way out of my pay scale, and SVT, which is at the upper end of my budget. The only thing that is remotely close to an affordable performance car is the Mustang GT, which can be modded into a hot number without having to sell the farm. But another performance sedan? Not very likely.

Which is why when some of us on here start urinating all over Daimler-Chrysler and GM products I get annoyed. They are actually bringing to market the kinds of cars that we here appreciate and want. The STS-V, for example, is no way near as handsome a car as the Marauder, but cripes -- a production roots-supercharged V8 sedan that also has all the latest technology both under the hood and in the cabin? That's impressive.

3 years from now I will be buying a new car. My Marauder will retire to a life of occasional use, and I'll continue to spend money on it. It's a keeper. But, I will need a new daily driver. If Ford hasn't produced anything similar by then (and assuming the SVT Lightning doesn't materialize), I am seriously considering buying a new STS-V.

Which is why when some of is start urinating all over Daimler-Chrysler and GM products I get annoyed. They are actually bringing to market the kinds of cars that we here appreciate and want. Right again..... GM and Daimler Chrysler have a much more exciting line up than Ford.
