I was in Homedepot yesterday. As I was walking around I saw this tin "T" for $10 bucks and a coupling for $3.

I am currently waiting to get a heat shield from Maraudernkc for my ProCharger, but in the meantime, I decided that this would do the job.

For $13 bucks, why not!

What do you think?

I kinda like it..... :)

Good thinking!! :up:But i wonder if it would not be getting enough air?

I don't know....

I can't even try it out until next week when I get my tubes back (polished ceramic coating) and put everything back together.

I can say the reason I cut and spread the lower strips was so it would direct more air into the opening. It sits right behind the 2 holes to the rear of the headlight. The stock airbox takes air from only one of the openings. I do not see why air from to of them would make a difference.

The small coupling over the MAF is not even necessary but I wanted to seal the filter in as much as possible.

I'll test is out next week. If I end up liking it, I'll powder coat it.

Well since you asked, I think you wasted $13.00 and it looks like :censor: !

Maybe so, for $13 one should not expect it to be fabricated at Tiffany's.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyway.

And for $13 I think it looks fabulous!

Patent it man!!!!

I has the plausibility of being copied! :baaa:

Actually, I think it's a quite creative temporary solution. Powder coat it, and you could make ....tens..... ;)

I know.......I know........I can hardly believe it myself!

Everyone who has seen my stove pipe in person just loves it!

I think I do need a patent....before I know it some dude in China is going to copy it to make a washing machine or something and I'll be out at least $50 in royalties.

Guys, I don't think your taking me seriously enough!

Industry research at Coleman has revealed that I should expect a significant reduction in AIT. This think laughs at heat soak from the engine.

Ugly, you bet she is. But I bet she is going to be a performer...

I mean, let's face it, this thing is one cold air super sucker!

Sticks and Stones may break my bones but negative comments about my stove pipe will never hurt me!

:burnout: I like your idea. Creative and inexpensive. Looks like it would solve the heat soak problem, assuming there actually is one. I'm a believer and headed to Home depot tomorrow. Lower Inlet temp= higher density of air charge= MORE POWER.:woohoo:

My two cents:twocents: .

I like it. I had about the same Idea that involved something made from Rubbermaid. Hey, does it work? Yes. Does it look all that great....no, but it still works. Good job. Knee highs also work for a filter sock and they come in any color that you could ever want. Just watch out for runs!!

Is it possible that the pipe (heated from the raised underhood ambient temps) would heat the incoming air and counter any benefits of a larger inlet? That is a large bit of metallic surface area you're pushing your air passed.

tmac, I like the idea, but let me offer one suggestion.
I notice that you have the inlet tube going to the side. You might want to face it downwards.
The reason I say this is because whenever I take off my K&N to clean it, the bottom is always the dirty area, never the top or sides. That leads me to believe that more air is being sucked in through the bottom. If that is the case, wouldn't you want the inlet opening where most of the air is coming from, anyway?
Just my .02. I think you're on the right track.

That's interesting. Air is taken from behind the headlight with the stock airbox, I think purposely.

If your K&N is dirty mostly on the bottom, it may be taking in a lot of heated air up from the radiator, and from the backside up from the exhaust manifolds, where the air is flowing the easiest with the least resistance.

If this is true a regular heat shield would not do much good.

For giggles I am going to test my cold air stove pipe super sucker next week with a pyrometer.

No problem, I was going to use fish net stockings first but my wife talked me out of it. I think she is jealous or something. Anyway, the knee highs do work fine under most normal conditions that the filter can be used in. And they cost less than a buck for 2 of them.

Why can't you just wrap it in duct tape? In my younger days, I had entire cars that were held together with duct tape and coat hangers!

That is a fantastic idea!

I was going to affix this in the engine bay with bubble gum.......but duct tape sounds like a much better idea.

For those of you who mock my stove pipe cold air super sucker, I shall test the ambient air under the hood and then the test the air intake at the MAF with a pyrometer after the "super sucker" to see the difference.

I have a feeling that the Super Sucker will in fact decrease air temps.

If not.............I'll make a mailbox out of it! :beatnik:

Can you test the temps with the stock set up as well?

This could be the start of something good. After waiting a long time for various cold air devices, it would be great to learn that something simple like this is what we have needed all along. I shall wait impatiently for results! And if it works, it won't take long before someone figures out how to add bling to it!

tmac, I have been following this thread closely, and am very interested in your test results, (as I'm sure more are than are willing to say). I have to give you an A+ in creativity and well, McGuiverism. I'll be ordering my K&N soon, so I'll be looking forward to hearing the outcome of your heat test. Thanks for the interesting post. :)

The pyrometer will be at the Sunshine State Marauder's meet on Friday the 18th.

I'll test mine and if someone volunteers a stock intake can be tested. Some of the members have K&N's or JLT too.
