...something did not feel right.

The engine was at temp., OD off and kicked the loud pedal to the floor at 25 - 30 MPH.

The beast lunged and immediately hit 4,000+ RPM. It felt good until 5,000 RPM.

At that point it felt like it did not want to rev much past that and the tach was struggling to move towards redline as if it were slowing down.

I left off the loud pedal, slowed down to 25 and repeated the above.

To my surprise, I heard the tires chirp when hitting first, the RPM went to 6,000+ and shifted to second at about 58 MPH feeling like it always has in the past.

My '04 is stock except for the JLT RAI.

Has anyone seen or experienced this before??

Scratching my melon on this one. :help:

Mike.

Did you take the screen out when you upgraded to the JLT? That might cause it.

it could have been just a fluke. i don't think i have ever had a duplicate wot experience. :)

Could you have been on a slightly slippery surface and the traction control was kicking in?

The streets were dry with the sun shining at approx. 40 - 45 deg. F.

I have gone WOT several times with the JLT as well as before the JLT install. The feeling was like it fell on it's face, so to speak.

No smoke from exhaust and/or tires. The intake was breathing/sounding as past times when nailing the throttle.

This felt, uh. . . weird.

My car just experienced something along those same lines recently .
The fuel pressure in my car was checked and it showed 10 lbs.
So under WOT it would rev to the 4-5,000 rpm mark , then just die .

They replaced my fuel pump last Friday and it's now pulling great .

Mike, I'm not sure if I've asked you this before, but how many miles are on your Marauder? It sounds like a symptom that worn sparkplugs, or a slightly clogged fuel filter can cause. But if you have less than about 12,000 miles on your Marauder, then I don't think that either of those things can be probable causes.

The car is about to turn over 5,000 miles.

It has only acted this way once.

BTW, I only burn 92/93 octane.

How much gas was in your tank, and were you on a level surface? Sounds like fuel starvation.

Mike,

If you get ONE TIRE to slip just a little on WOT, the Traction Control will kick in and cut fuel and spark.
You don't have to have it spinning full boat with smoke and all for this to happen.
A small patch of dirt, dust or black ice is all it takes to make one tire lose grip
and cause the T/C to kick and and kill your engine.

So if you can duplicate it on a CLEAN FLAT SURFACE,
then there may be an electrical or mechanical problem.

Sometimes the computer will readjust itself....if you change
your driving habits. It you drive a certain way for awhile
the computer will program itself to maintain that style of
driving...when you start (WOT) everytime, the
computer says "what happen here" and has to readjust.

Gotta Love It! :D

Yes, it might be that wusy taction control. that's one of the two reasons that I don't like it, and why I deliberately went out of my way just to find a Marauder that didn't have it. Since your car isn't supercharged, you probably wouldn't expect the tires to spin at all even at WOT after you're already traveling at a speed of 20 MPH or faster, but many tires(including our factory stock BFG's) have rubber on them that changes when the outside temperature is lower than 50 degrees, and they don't grab the pavement well at all even while it's dry. Couple that with all the sand that's on the road right now, and your tires might very well have been breaking loose, and that traction control could very well have been kicking in momentarily. I'd have that thing programmed out!

Billy, you are so right, My stock BFG's are pretty worn and when the temperature is low, they'll break loose no problem, especially now with the K & N.

So, check your tires also.

The tires were not slipping at 45 - 50 MPH. Conditions, granted, were cool but the roads were very dry and the car has not done this before.

No need to check my tires. Thirty-five pounds of air and 4,700 miles on them.

Guess I'll try it again tomorrow to see if I can duplicate it.

Thanks,

Mike.

Mike, I'm tellin you, there doesn't have to be anything "wrong" with those tires, nor do they have to be worn to have poor traction characteristics when it's cold. Under 50 degrees, the rubber on them stiffens up so much, that I don't doubt that your traction control can be kicking in at almost any time during a full throttle blast. Turn off the wussy control from now on (I mean the traction control :D ).

OK Billy,
I'll turn the T/C off and mash her to the floor at the next opportunity.

You sure this thing won't 360 on me? LOL!

Mike.

Mike.LOL.....no way....if it does, then you oughtta enter it into the World Guiness book of records for being the most powerfull N/A Marauder on the planet.

Mike,

You need too check your tires...

First, you should be running about 38 in the front and 40+ in the rear
for even wear, better traction, and proper support for your Marauder.

You can search for at least a dozen or so posts concerning tire pressure,
but at 35psi, you'll be buying new tires short of 20,000 miles.
There is a forum on the BFGoodrich website, that is free to join,
and one of the Tire Developers explained why our tires require
at least 5 - 7 psi MORE AIR that what Ford recommends, for proper wear
and support.
