I'm thinking of putting a Satalite tracking system in my Marauder. I was told On Star was excellent & others say Lo-Jack is better. I not looking to start a arguement just get some fact's on the pro's & Con's on each. I have friends who are Police officers & most of them feel On Star is better & The Auto Dealer's feel Lo-Jack is. What do you guys feel is better & why?

If you can get SATELLITE TRACKING go with that anyday over Lo-Jack.

Lo-Jack doesn't have anywhere near the coverage they claim they do,
and even if a police vehicle that has the LoJack tracker installed in it,
if it is out or down for service, your vehicle won't be tracked until
the vehicle with the tracker installed goes back into service.
The Tracker is also not the greatest system.
It doesn't pinpoint the vehicle, it just leads them into the general direction.
Its up to the Police Officer to eye the vehicle, and it has to be done
while he is driving, and looking at the Lo-Jack tracker as well.

Satellite tracking systems can be made to be invasive to the starter system.
So once they are activated, and the vehicle turned off, it won't start for anyone.
Then all the police have to do is visit the location given by the satellite system
and the vehicle will be there waiting for them.

There are lots of stories on the internet for many satellite systems.
Many vehicles are found within minutes of being discovered as missing,
and the best part is you don't have to wait for the police to activate the system.
You go to a website with your PC/CellPhone, and enter your code and password.
The vehicle is tracked, and disabled, and you are notified once the vehicle has been turned off,
and you can SEE where it is located by the location and map provided to your PC.
THEN you can call the police, tell them you vehicle has been stolen,
and that you have enabled a satellite tracking system to disable your
vehicle, and give them the vehicle's location and description.
The police can go to the vehicle and secure it for you.
Its that simple !!!

Your spouse/significant other can call you from where ever they are,
to tell you the car is missing.
You can open the browser on your Work PC, go the the website and log in.
They will tell you where the vehicle is, and you have the option of disabling it,
while your spouse/significant other, calls the police....

Ya gotta love the plus' of this system !!!

I wasn't aware you could retrofit OnStar.
We have it in my wife's Aurora and it's the best thing since sliced bread. She's called them and had them unlock the doors via satellite after she locked her keys in the car on more than one occasion. I called them from the car once when we were horribly lost in northern Michigan and sure enough they directed me to where I needed to go(remember I didn't know where I even was they punched up my location via satellite.)
The way it's set up in the Aurora OnStar calls if your airbags go off and it can disable the ignition if vehicle is stolen.

If the vehicle isn't moving or the ignition turned on....OnStar will not work.

At least it was that way a year who when I tried to track one after a home invasion.

OnStar told me the vehicle would have to be running to be tracked.

LoJack can be tracked with the car parked ignition off. Works very well in NYC and surounding area.

It far better than lojack you can monitor the car on the net and you can dissable the car with a key stroke

The police are given the vehicle description and plate numbers by LoJack. I have tracked stolen cars and it works. But I like the sat. tracking via the internet much better. Call it a control thing. Plus, if the car goes in for service or is out of site, you can keep an eye on it.

Hell, go for both!!!

I can tell you that there are a number States, (Georgia one of them) whose police agencies do not use LoJack. Simply put LoJack is worthless in some States.

That must have changed because the ignition has been off each time they unlocked the doors for my wife.(okay they did it for me once too but I wasn't going to admit it.)

Thats only LoJack....

No it's not.
On*Star does it in ALL of their commercials.
Both TV and Radio.

Lo-Jack doesn't claim anything that On*Star does.
