I really don't know what to do. I will hopefully become a 2004 Marauder owner in a month or two. I can't decide on the color. I can be lazy at times when it comes to washing my car, so I'm looking at getting a Silver Birch one. BUT (No offense to the owners of the other color Marauders) nothing beats a freshly washed & waxed Black Marauder. WOW!!!
What should I do?

Thanks in advance,
Chuck

I LUV the fact that my Marauder is black. yes, it can be difficult to keep spotless, but it still looks good most of the time. And I'm not what I'd consider a fanatic about washing and waxing my car either. I wash it about twice per week during the warm months, and it usually looks pretty good. Good enough to get a number of compliments. If I had it to do over again, I would still buy a Black Marauder.

Chuck,

This is the first black car I've ever owned. Obviously, a little amount of dirt seems magnified when you compare it to other colors.

I won't deny it takes some work to keep it clean, more so than light colors. I too can be lazy at times with washing the car, especially after a 70 hour work week. However ... that being said, I think you'll find that owning a Marauder makes the car washing process less of a chore and more of a relaxing and fun thing to do .. At least it has for me.

Good luck with your purchase.

Just remember it gets a little warm in Homestead when you're down here. 95 degrees outside = about 150 degrees inside a black car.

Like Henry Ford said "you can get it in any color as long as it's black". This is my first black car but for the year I've had it it's worth the extra time spent keeping it clean. I use the Mr Clean AutoDry system, leanes the car spotless after it's weekly wash. If you tint the windows the inside will be cooler :D

Thanks for the responses. I'm as worried now as before. Will try to see them next to each other & take from there.

Fubar I actually live in Lithonia, GA. Atlanta suburb. I still get home to Homestead at least once a year now, but when I first moved to GA, I was trying to come home 2 to 3 times a year. No matter where I live , Homestead will always be home. I'm a military brat so I miss the pre-Andrew, Homestead.

I would go with a DTR or Birch if I had the option. The black is impressive... at a distance... but the paint jobs on the black are so poor from the factory... and the black shows every little scratch and swirl.....

Tho I have no knowledge of the quality of the other two paint jobs... the silver can look soooo Smooth !

I love the look of black but didn't want the hotter than hell feeling of getting into my car when it is 100 plus in the shade. I've owned a black car around here before and I don't want it again. I have been very satisfied with the silver birch. Looks clean and stays much cooler in the summer.

:) There may be other colors, but nothing strikes fear in the hearts of ricers like a big black behemoth breathing down their necks. Black has it's moments but as you say when it's clean it can take your breath away.

I am still happy that I chose the black color. I run my car through a 'touchless' car wash once a week and have a large clean towel to wipe the little spots once I get home. The towel goes in the washing machine immediately after so that it is clean and free of dirt for the next wash. It's not perfect system, but my car looks good most of the time.

Well Chuck ... you haven't had the close up treatment on a sparkling Blue MM. Certainly not as sinister or intimidating as the Black ones; but equally impressive on looks.

Chuck, I'm seeing a few people complained about the heat inside a black car; which is especially the case in GA and FL.
Formula One has a ceramic tint that dispells a good amount of heat, not cheap but terribly effective. Its always going to be hot in the summer but I think this will level the playing field as far as heat goes.

Marauder in black is about as good as it gets.

I was looking for a used black one for months, and couldn't find one with low miles for a reasonable price. Figured I might as well look for a new one. The only one I could find here in the Dallas area was DTR, so I bought it. I've had more people standing around admiring the car or telling me what a great looking car it is than any other car I've ever owned--and that includes the Corvettes! Silver might not heat up from the sun, but, of all the colors available, it is the most blah. It looks like the factory forgot to finish assembling a Grand Marquis. Blue is probably the prettiest color. DTR gets a lot of compliments. Black is the baddest looking--especially with dark tinted windows. People don't know if you are a cop or a drug dealer, so they give you a wide berth.

Chuck, I have a Silver Birch and I love the car. It's easy to keep clean and is a very nice looking ride. BUT; it doesn't have THAT look, the TDR's are very nice, the Blue ones very rare, and all of them look just great. But the Black ones, with tinted windows are super cool, and are the embodiment of, IMHO, the Marauder image. At the last CAM doo, Haggis' Black Bomber looked sooo good, and at the previous outing I was lusting over Brutus' beautiful ride. For my money the Black MM is the best looking one. A word of warning though, some of the Black '03's had paint issues. Make sure there's no defects when you go shopping.

Thanks. Got it January 3rd and have put nearly 7000 miles on it. It has the moonroof, heated seats, etc. Best part is the great sound of the stock exhaust system. I like to get on the freeway with the windows down and listen to the sound reflecting off the concrete barriers. Next best thing to sex. Of course, that's a very distant second best!

Black is the fastest color.According to the laws of physics that can't be true!

Black absorbs heat so the exhaust heat is always dragging on the rear bumper! :D

Thanks in advance,
ChuckI got mine because of the heat issue, but also because a car in the distance (2 miles or more) is almost invisible from the ground if it's grey. But after it came in, even the salesmen said it looked better than the black ones they had sold.

The battleship-like color, almost military; the lack of chrome around the grille, and not too much around the windows and lights, stealthy; the way the darkened part of our very special headlight assemblies give the front a kind of cat burglar look about it, or should I say 'bandit'? :bandit:

I love my Quicksilver. Silver Birch is my personal favorite. Light Flint interior also, kind of reminds me of Darth Vaders' grey on black costume in Return of the Jedi. :D

You should attend the Marauder owner's breakfast in Marietta, which occurred the day after you posted. No matter, the next one is the weekend of FFW. Keep an eye peeled for the announcement.

If I were to replace my black 2003 (i.e. stolen or totalled), I would go for a DTR with a charcoal interior. I saw one on Pugmire's lot that was nice, and a customer of mine has one. It always turns my head when I see it. The only drawback to a DTR is that I don't think it would lend itself well to the S55 tail light conversion, which looks good on a black and GREAT on a silver.

Black looks fantastic when its clean, but get it out in the weather and it doesn't stay clean long.

Chuck, If you are lazy about washing your car than silver, in my opnion is the best color to get. I have had many silver cars and they do not show every little thing.

This has been a delema I ponder, too, when looking at these cars. IMHO, the black is definitely the best looking over all. But then again, I have owned a black car before and we just got black for the wife in the new Five Hundred we got.

I think taking care of that car will be the decider on a black or silver MM. I drive about 500/week year round, so something that hides the potential rock chips and dirt would be nice. But I agree the silver can look a little tame or actually a little more upscale where as the black is kind of the bad boy look. If I went silver, though, it would have to have the charcoal interior, not the light color.

Well, that's your opinion. Black is the definative color for this car. However, I owned a Black 2003B and worked my butt off trying to keep it looking good. I traded for a 2004 Silver Birch and it is beautiful. Easy to keep clean and gets it's share of looks going down the road. There ain't no way I would go back!
