Washed the ride the other day and found that the clearcoat on the front passenger wheel was peeling along the edge of the wheel. The car has never been curbed but I still expected an argument at the dealer. Brought it in, ready to jump on the offensive I might ad. The write up guy took a look talked to the service manager and ordered a wheel! The only reason I bought the car where I did was for the service depts. reputation. Looks like my friends and family set me on the right path... So far.:coolman:

Vaderv - I thought that a previous thread stated the rims were polished. Didn't realize they were clear coated. Thanks for the heads up. I'am sure everyone will be checking their rims . John:coolman:

It's amazing how "docile" the dealers are while a car is still under warranty- that's because THEY aren't paying for replacing the deffective part, Ford is. ;)

Hey stealth, Ive had serious "discussions" with at least a few service managers over cars under warranty.

When you polish Al you have to clearcoat it or else it will become dull again. Case in point- '77 Corvette.

These are bare Al rims. When I take the time to polish them they look absolutely stunning. For about a week... Even less if they get wet. What I need to do is polish them up as good as possible, then clearcoat them but the car is now 2800 miles away. The clearcoat is to keep the air off the Al and becoming dull. That dullness you see in Al is basically Al's form of rust. It's oxidation.
