View Full Version : First power mod shaves .5 sec off ET!

My old best was 14.935 seconds at 93.27 mph.
Tonight was NHRA Street Legal Drags, $10 admission and no fee to race. I was spittin' battery acid since wednesday 'cause my Diablosport Predator came in the mail and I had only two hours of dry streets after I re-tuned the PCM. It felt pretty good, not so much off the line but the rev limiter let 1st gear wind up over 6000 and the shift felt really good. Thursday it was wet and test&tune seemed a wasted day but tonight it was dry and cold!
(drum roll)
14.455 at 96.73 mph! :D
Is that good?
Thanks guys for leading me in the right direction for my first power modification. Tuner. Definitely the right choice.

Actually, 0.48 sec. A nice drop though.

Actually, 0.48 sec. A nice drop though. :up:Damn! I was afraid somebody was going to catch me in that lie. :o
Logan, can you ever forgive me? I'm really sorry. Please don't ban me for lying. :alone:
Before somebody notices it, yes, I modified the timeslip using Windows Paint. The oval is a paint-on click and drag ellipse and is not by my actual hand.

I'd say that 14.455 with just a tune and no other go-fast mods is quite good! Nice R/T, too!

I believe your new ET could possibly have de-throned Smokie from his "fastest MM with least mods and money spent" title? I could be wrong on this...but it's a possibility.

Sounds pretty good to me !! :2thumbs: Post your stats and slip in the timeslips section and see where you line up against other MM mods. :D
Looks like I'll be pushed down another page in the listing. :(

-MatCorrect you are sir. :D
David congratulations :bows: I believe you have the fastest ever MM. on least amount of mods. and your 60' times blow me away. This is another excellent example of how well our cars respond to good tuning. Will it be fair to say your car can burn rubber without any problems ??? Again Congratulations, these are the posts I enjoy the most, positive things accomplished.

Nice! I didn't notice if you had a K&N or Air Hog on it, another low cost mod. May get you another .05 or so.

14.45 for a bone stock Marauder save the tuner is a damn good E/T, in my opinion. Nice. :)
Over a second faster than my CV, and I've got about $500 in "mini-mods." (i.e. chip, ADTR cold air intake, etc.) :( :( :(

Former Best SlipsThank you for your gracious post, Smokey.
As far as burning rubber goes I had to replace my first set of rears at 7000 miles! My previous best 0-60' time was 2.180 and after the tune it's 2.142, not that great an improvement and I didn't think it was going to be much after I had installed the tune either. Off the line torque didn't seem to improve at all, but the extra 200-300 rpm of first gear felt very strong and the shift...well, let's just say if the tires were the kind that squeal there'd be a nice chirp cause the front end comes up like it was at the line taking off again! Also, it gets 3rd gear well before the traps now when before it was just hitting 3rd as it went through the traps.
RS232 cable and power supply is next so I can log some run data through my computer to see if there's some more torque I can safely get. I'll keep you guys posted.
Metco control arms & watts link should be in the mail soon. I'll then get the best sway-bars, any input appreciated. I am very happy with the engines' performance for the time being, so it's time to get going on the suspension and tires.
Lidio will be getting my rims done in the next couple of weeks and I am planning on brining her in to the local SVT dealership before it's first year is up May 20th for those perfecting warranty repairs, trim pieces, mouldings, rattles etc. I will be taking something off to send away for a top-secret bling mod I'm gonna wow you guys with so the dealership is gonna have her for a couple of weeks.
Come May I hope to be ready for the real McCoy, forced air induction, so I won't be spending money for a cool air kit. I'm still leaning towards the turbocharger kit at Pro Turbo Kits (http://66.70.20.245/store/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=78), I hope there's no hard feelings from the blower fans it's just that I'm an old Buick Grand National fan and I like the idea of no belt and better torque at the higher rpm range, I think it suits our DOHC 32V engine better. I want to be the first turbocharged guy on the board doing 11s' with only a "so-so" 0-60' time.

I've been reading up on Diablosport's website after learning that MarauderTJA just had his Procharger car tuned by a Diablo Dealer in Fort Meyers and also at the company's office in Del Ray Beach.
I must say I am impressed at what the Predator does compared to my 9100 tuner. The Predator has a large LCD, can data log 30 minutes of drive time which can be reviewed on a home pc later. Just about anything from timing, fuel ratio, to shift points can be changed yourself in small increments.
I know the SCT Xcalibrator has no LCD, can it do any of these functions?
I wonder why there are so few members using Diablo?
I did a search for their tuners/dealers in S. Florida, and they are all over, especially Steeda which is the big powerhouse down here.
Was there a push for SCT in the very beginning on this website for some reason/some vendor and we all went in that direction?

I'm an old Buick Grand National fan...Nice!! So are we! We've got an 87 T-Type in the family, dark grey metallic, courtesy of my fiancee Heather. When I race her she makes me look silly. 11.80's with just bolt ons, race gas, and ET street slicks.

It seems like the big names in MM Tuning only deal with SCT... Not sure why Diablo has fallen out of their favor.
I'm dying for the new Xcalibrator2 to come out. It's supposed to be a handheld programmer, like the Predator. An actual screen again, OBD2 scanning, user allowed fine tuning and the capability to datalog... Sounds like a winner, to me.
Hearing that this might be out soon will hold me up from purchasing anything, now... Perhaps one of the vendors can speak to a release date? :depress:

-MatGood looking car. Marry that one for sure!
Hey sweetie, if your peeking at his computer and get this message, you can come to Bradenton if he gets cold feet!
Just kidding Mat. Yeah those T-types were my favorites. Marauders are now because I'm an old fart that needs the room. There's a couple of guys I see Thursdays at the track for test & tune that have T-types and they're turning 12s on pump gas, daily drivers.

Great time Dave! Very impressive. I too have a Predator and find it gives you great flexability for tuning. Heading to Bradenton (weather pending) tomorrow night for test and tune. CarFixer, Bootlegger, TallBoy and maybe King Fubar will be going. Hope you can make it by. Going to see what my car will do. And then, maybe some more tuning..Hpoe to see you there., TOM

WOW!!!...:coolman: ...14.5 sec 1/4 mile is Impala S/S beater time...:banana2: ...don't understand the reaction time...when we raced at Martin US 131 dragway last summer we had to run a "Pro-tree" and anything quicker than .400 was a "breakout"...the "Sportsman" tree had a .500 breakout/ red-light...reminds me of my ...:bandit:...hillbilly classmate from North Carolina...his [then] new 1969 Chevelle SS 396 was "faster then'a a 427"..."they musta put 427 pistons innit at th' factory by mistake"... ...[Southern Drawl]...
