I've been using Motorcraft oil filters, but was curious to see if anyone has been using K&N oil filters...? Any comparative experiences to share?

Heavy-Duty Construction for Extreme Conditions
To satisfy the demands of racers, our oil filter has many features over and above the requirements of most vehicles. We use thicker canister walls for extra strength and durability which reduces the risk of damage from loose rocks and debris. The heavy-duty construction will withstand higher oil pressures found only in racing environments without bursting. The drilled hole on the nut is for a safety wire attachment. Required for many types of racing, the safety wire prevents blown oil filters from falling on the track and representing a hazard to other race vehicles. This extra engineering offers piece of mind for consumers who want only the best.

Sturdy 1" wrench nut makes removal quick and easy

Resin-impregnated filter media provides maximum filtering surface for contaminant removal

Anti-drainback valve (where applicable) eliminates dry starts, prevents oil from draining back into crankcase during engine shutdown

Internally lubricated gasket provides positive seal while allowing easy on and off of filter
Rolled threads provide extra protection against stripping

I have been using a K&N oil filter since the first oil change.
Not sure if it is any better than Motorcraft/Fram/Purolator, etc.
but like they say on TV "race cars shouldn't leave home without it"
Also, it's a bit pricey at $9.00, but nothing is too good
for ol' girl, right?
Gotta Love It!

After the first oil x-change (freebie) the dealer did for me,They charge me 18 dollars and change. And they clean it too!:D I end up doing them every 2-3 k.Once I asked a service writer,(where I worked), if he had time to get me in on a busy Saturday for a oil change.
At the end of thier day 3:00,He hands me back the keys and said'"We did'nt have time to change your oil,try again next week.
So that is exactly what I did.Later that second Saturday, I was hanging out at the service desk,I asked the wrench something about the my car. After answering my question, He asked me "Didn't I change the oil in your car last weekend?"I replied "Guy told me you guys were too busy, and to try again today". So I got another Freebie.
So out of the eight or so oil changes I have had my dealer do,I have only paid for half of them!:P

Oh, sorry the thread topic,It looks like the features are about the same between the two, with the exception of the handy 1" nut to R&R. I read on this forum, Ford reduced the # of pleats in thier oil filter, so thier may be an advantage to the K&N.I also read that the Flow of the oil is(circulates faster)cooled better ,and supposedly gives better protection. Some one also posted independent test results compairing several oil filters,But ,I don't remember K&N being one of the ones tested. Are they new?

I just ordered three, $9.87 each free shipping, from AJ USA. I'll report back after my next oil and filter change, which will be soon.
Incidently, I also ordered a 12 quart case of 5w20 Royal Purple, also free shipping, for $66.59 (5.55 a quart) from RPMOIL.COM

I use them too, but what do I know... Fram's might be just fine. Might be similar products for less, but these are easy to find and are easy to remove.

All I have ever used on the Marauder has been K&N. Actually I switched before my Marauder, when I had a Fram come apart and pump 5 qts of Mobil One on the ground on a Ranger truck I owned. I honestly don't know if they are any better, but i have never had any problems with them.

I read on this forum, Ford reduced the # of pleats in thier oil filter,
For the record, that was the AIR filter they were referring to, not the oil filter.

I checked out RPMoil's site an they have some pretty good deals.
For those of you interetested in an alternative premium oil and filters like the above. I can get you Amsoil 5W20 for about $4.34/qt delivered ($5.29/qt for first time buyers) and SDF11 filters for about $8.75 delivered. I typically have products shipped direct from a distribution center so I can't really offer "free shipping" unless I ship directly from my inventory.
In some instances (like for my Sunshine State Marauder brothers and occasionally Atlanta customers) I can deliver oil, filters, and other products for Free. PM me for details

I notice they don't have the abrasive ring to grip easier. The nut on the end makes me wary that the junior techs might over torque the filter.

Is there any here who is an oil analysis fanatic and can post up their findings over the changes? Possibly using this filter (which seems to be expensive just for the sake of being expensive)?

Shaft, check your PMs...

The biggest difference you will find is that the K&N Oil Filter will withstand HIGHER Internal pressures,
and it flows more GPM than any other filter for the SAME application.
It also has the Anti-Drainback valve, and the nut on the end to facilitate easy removal.
For the nut on the end of the filter to REMOVE the filter,
the CAN has to be thick enough to support the torque.
Most Oil Filters I've seen, collapse just from the Oil Filter strap wrench...
I've used K&N Oil Filters exclusively on 2 vehicles now.
My older 1998 Contour SE Sport V6, and now the Marauder.
I can't tell if its cleaner or not, but it is a HEAVIER made filter,
and I've never had one leak or bust a seam.
I've seen FRAM, AC Delco, and Motorcraft filters leak at the seam...

May sound silly,I prefer the anti slip ring on the outside of the filter. For a couple reasons; The amount of torque required to install an oil filter(if you follow the install instructions)is to turn it 2/3 to 3/4 turn(s) after the gasket comes in contact with the metal ring on the engine. If you have ever changed your own oil,You know what I am speaking of.
Anyone that torques an oil can to a motor (like Magilla Gorilla with a wrench ) ,Should be taken out behind the tool shed and :bop: .
Oh, and the other reason;when the oil filter gets oil on it,makes it much easier to turn .
