View Full Version : cast alluminium gods head badges?

I have a friend who does casting and forging. Would anybody be interested in a pair of cast alluminum gods head badges that are the same size as the wing badges the car came with. If enough people show an intrest, I'll look into it and find out what the costs would be. Also what do you think they would be worth? I'm not here to make a profit, and I have no idea how much it would cost to produce, just curious what everyone who is interested thinks, so I have an idea of what I need to shoot for in working out the details.

One of the other members here (thanks again, Todd!) was good enough to pass me along to a guy in Canada who makes the custom badges. I expect to get them back on Monday or thereabouts. I will post and let you know what I think. I used the guy because Alan's photos looked good (see them in the photo gallery).

looking97233: I like to know what the cost is? Are these replacements for the front and rear badge? If so let me know.
Thanks

I would be interested as well. Not sure what to tell you they might be worth, guess it depends on who you ask.

If you make it they will buy. Where do I sign?

Yes the badges would be the same size as the current grille and deck lid badges and would be a direct replacement for them.

Okay, I'll look into how much trubble it would be to make them.

Okay, I'm going to go ahead with this. It will be awhile as I have to work with my friend to make molds and all. He works full time and is working on a masters degree full time too. So the time I can get him to help is limited. I'll post on this again when I get things worked out.

They will look just like the center caps. What I plan to do is, enlarge the center cap, make a model of it, mabye two. I was thinking about an exact copy of the center cap, and also trying to do one of just the raised aeras, so the ruff finished backgriound on the center cap would not be part of the ones I make. Then make the back sides the same as the existing badges so they will fit, make plaster molds, and cast them up. Polish and clearcoat. Like I said eariler though, about a month or so. Will post pics when ready. The cost? I don't know yet, as eariler said, I'm not doing this for profit, I'm doing it cuz I want this for my car. If you all like them, I'll make some for you too. It will be the cost of the metal, supplies(plaster for the molds, gas for the furnace, and such) a little for my time, and a little added on to support Logans site since I would be actually selling them and it would be right to return some to this site.
I'll post more when I have it.

So they'll be made by the lost wax process? That will keep great detail

looking97233
02-28-2003, 01:14 AM
No, no wax. I'm new to the casting process, so I have to have help from a friend. He said we should use plaster molds. Better detail than sand, and more reliable. Wax would be ideal in a perfect world, but the time involved would make the product expensive. Lost wax is usualy used by sculptures to make a single piece. Using plaster, I can make many negetive molds from a single positve model. Paying close attention to detail, any loss of quality will be kept to a minnium.

well actually if you make a silicone rubber mold, backed by plaster, you can make multiple wax pieces to produce multiple items in one casting session.
The silicone rubber mold would be reuseable, and likely more economical in the long run. Maybe once a few have been made one off with a straight laster mold it would be worthwhle to look into.
"Silastic silcone" is often what is used.
Just a suggestion

A FRONT badge that fills the entire void would be highly cool and sought after.

The rear is an easy affordable fix on a rainy day.

Please let me know if the badge construction is underway or scrapped. Hack warned me to not reinvent the wheel. I want them. If no one is doing them, I will pursue this on my own. A local auto restoration firm has a subcontractor who is capable of making them. I want them as bad as I wanted the car!

Lowell.......Find out what this will cost us and let us know. I'd like to have a front and back badge. There is enough interest to perhaps get a group purchase rate.

I wiil check with Ryan, On the 17th. He already has Wheel insert for a model. Method discussed is CAD design, with laser cutting. Material will most lickely be stainless. My instinct for distribution would be to have three sets made as prototype. Ship one set to Logan for approval. Then sell thru web site store if Logan likes them. Price at this time is unknown. This subcontractor makes items that are one of kind for vehicle restoration to replace unavailable parts.

Where did the one's from the gallery come from ? Are they available now? Sign me up for a pair provided the cost is around
$40.00 <>$60.00 per Pair.
