Hey Folks,

I had the pleasure or running over a big chunk of plastic on the interstate yesterday and it made an awful rattling... crunching...clunking noise!!

I pulled off at the next exit and found no significant damage except for the plastic thingy behind the right foglamp.....that has the velcro on it..... it was discomboobilated and flapping below the bumper!!??

What significance does this thing serve and will it hurt anything if it is gone.....I had to pull it out since half the staples that hold it were pulled loose. :argue:

Our '98 CV doesn't have any of this facia at all but no foglamps either?? I can't see where it does anything and wonder if I should replace the whole right side facia as it tore loose from the bumper mount as well??

Comments and Ideas please!! :o

I had the pleasure of having to replace the entire driver's side fog light assembly, ..the only 'plastic thingy' I can think of is the bulb housing...

can you post a few pics?

It is the "access flap" that has Velcro to hold it in place. You release the Velcro to get easier access to the foglamp.

I can't see where any of that stuff hanging down behind the bumper does anything??

Take the car to an auto body shop you trust and ask them for a free estimate to repair the damages from the road-junk.

When my car was in the auto body shop, I learned how rediculous the prices are to replace some of the plastic pieces of the car. It might be worth making an insurance claim.. or not... thus the estimate.

Just for giggles.. if they needed to replace your front bumper with new parts, you'd be looking at around $2k for the parts, and a couple hundred more for the labor.

Capt. Steve...

Thanks for the reply but nothing was damaged but the "Starboard" access flap...rubber about the size of a shoe box lid!! Probably about $150.00 from Ford and I feel like it ain't really needed??

Just wonder if anyone can confirm that it serves a purpose?? Heck they left part of the fender liner out in front of the "Port Side" front wheel...take a look at yours!! :bows:

I really don't see any purpose for these pieces except they were getting rid of "parts bin" stuff with our cars?? :D

don't worry, my flap came off too, about 2 months ago, and all is well
