View Full Version : Tires redux

I've read all the threads - and I'm right back where I started!!

Matching the front and rear tires on the Marauder with widened rear rims is somewhat of a challenge. I've been running Nitto DR's 305's on the rears and the BFG's up front (oem size). This combo works great in dry warmer weather, however, its white knuckle stuff negotiating these windy CT backroads when they are wet or even below cold (snows Finally coming off this week - I hope!!!!).

I was wondering if anyone is running the Nitto 555R's 295/45/18 on the rear and the same tire in 245/45/18's on the front. Alternatively has anyone tried the Pirelli PZero Rosso's (A or D) in 285/45/18 & 235/50/18's?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Roger D.

Just sent out some rims for widening. Already have the tires for them, Goodyear Eagle F1's 295/45-18
Unfortunately they don't have a matching tire for the fronts, so I'll probably go with the BFG KDW2

Roger D.I see that Nitto has a new tire made for wet and dry. The Nitto NT-555RII might be a good alternative but from Tire Rack the KDW-2 is very good in the wet too. I have a set of these but have yet to drive on them.

I have had my Nittos Extreme Street 295s on for about two weeks. I did not get the 305s because they just do not make any sense unless you have a s/c MM. Besides the 295s are a much better wet tire with more grooves and are a little harder material and will last longer. Cannot justify the widened rim and tire cost for a N/A MM, but they look great on the car. The Nittos seem to improve extreme handling a little with a little more road feel. I was surprised how easily I could smoke the Nittos being such a huge width increase over the OEMs. I thought the Nittos would smoke very little and just launch the car quicker. I had my posi rebuilt and I put down two back to back runs of solid 30 foot+ strips on both sides. We'll see how they do at FFW.

Thanks for all the replies.
The car has 4.10's a tune and a Trilogy SC - I'm surprised the Nitto 295's don't "hookup" all tha well. Recognizing you can't have everything in one tire, perhaps I'll have to learn to live with a little less launch and a lot more "driveability" in different conditions.

Once again,

Thanks,
