Looking for a good samaritan. Can someone post some pictures of the factory installed power moonroof? Some pictueres of it in the fully closed, fully open and tilted position would be great! Also, if someone wants to be really helpful, if you can take some measurements of the outside dimensions and the actual open-air dimensions (i.e. the size of the viewable opening from inside the car) that would be great!

I am considering getting one of these installed in a Thunderbird I have and would like this info to help make a decision. Thanks!

Do a search in the MM.NET GALLERY (http://www.mercurygallery.net/mmnet).

I believe there may be several shots of OEM moonroofs in there.

I must be searching wrong or something, because I already ran a search and looked through quite a few pages and still couldn't find much.

jgc61sr2002,

Thanks! I'm glad to be here.

djv5150,
That's what I tried. All I could find were some images of the Roush installed sunroof. I tried searching for both moonroof and sunroof and changed the different searchable fields. Can you tell me exactly what search you are executing so I can find the pics? Thanks for your help.

You can search on ASC Sunroofs.
They are located throughout the US.
They install Aftermarket Roofs that look very much OEM.
The only think you can tell is different is the frame that is installed into the roof.

They are BETTER than the OEM roof for a number of reasons...

1 - Closes Automatically when the Ign is turned off.
2 - Can't chop off your fingers, will stop and reopen if blocked.
3 - Can be programmed with a 'Memory' position.
4 - Can be equipped with a 'Rain Sensor'.
5 - NEW Matching headliner installed with new roof.
6 - OEM Style switch placed in overhead console.
7 - Warrantied for 3 years UNLIMITED MILEAGE.

OEM Roofs don't come with all of the above...

Your'e right Mr. T....I had some time to search myself tonight and found very little. I know I saw them here on the site somewhere.

Be patient, someone will find your thread next week and hook you up.

Just bump the thread every day.....;)

Here is a link to the web page of the original manufacturer of the "factory" moonroof. Maybe you can find what you need there.

I took some measurements of my roof for ya...
ASC 840 VSS Sunroof

Okay, starting inside...

With the shade open, the 'window' measures 25.75"W x 11"D.
The position of the 'window' is...

2.5" from the OH Console
5" from the Passenger OH Handle
10" from the edge of the Driver's side headliner edge

The headliner drop is about 1" to make room for the glass when it slides under the roof.

Outside measurements...

Glass Panel w/rubber edge moulding measures 32"W x 15.25"D.
Opens 1.75" in rear for vent.

It is positioned 10.5" from the Windshield Moulding edge to the Moonroof frame.
It is also 6.5" from the Moonroof frame to the top of either door.
The moonroof frame is only about 1/2" all around the opening and is BLACK.

Here is some information on ASC.
They have been in the sunroof/moonroof/convertible business since 1968...

And their latest news...

I have both, an ASC moon roof in my silver '03 and the factory Ford sunroof in my red '04. I definetly like the ASC moon roof alot better. It is bigger, has more functions and I have not had a problem with it. I have also had an ASC moon roof in my 96 olds and it is still working great to this day. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought my '04 without the Ford moon roof and put an ASC in. Just my .02

Thanks for all the feedback. It seems like all of the sunroof website only post small image of the roof. There are never any large detailed shots.

1 Bad Merc,

Would you be willing to post some images of both of your set-ups?

HI Mr. T,

Will talk to my brother in law and see if we can post some pictures for you this weekend on both set-ups. Just an fyi, my brother-in-law has a 03' silver and will be going in the next couple of weeks to have the ASC installed. He definetly likes the ASC better as it is bigger and has more functions. One of the big reasons that I like the ASC is that you can set it to close automatically when you turn the car off. The factory moon roof from my experience does not do this. It is very easy to jump out of the car and run into a store and forget the roof is open! Again, this is just my .02.

Will try to get these pics posted asap.

Mr.TWelcome T. :welcome:

Wabasto is the outfit you're looking for. They were the supplier for the T.bird units and sell under various names to aftermarket installers. Just GOOGLE 'em and I sure you'll find lots of info. :)
