I am going to do the A-Pillar dual guages.

I have decided on a Tranny Temp and Oil Temp guage set up.

However, Autometer makes a few different guages.

I assume we install the 'electric' guage not the 'mechanical' guage? What is the difference?

Also, Auto Meter makes a 'Full Sweep Electrical Guage'. What is this guage?

Lastly, I have found several different part numbers for different Tranny and Oil Temp guages. Could someone who has bought these guages help steer me in the right direction.

Oil Guages are 4356, 4347 and 4348.

Tranny Guage is 4357 - but I think there are a few others that will fit.

Thanks,

Paul

Here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16203&highlight=gauges) are some of your answers. I have the oil, volts and tranny temp gauges installed. Really looks factory.

Fuel pressure will be installed soon.

Just to answer one of your questions.... "'Full Sweep Electrical Guage'" means that the needle sweeps from about 8 all the way around to 4 if you are looking at a clock.

The older electric gauges only went from about 10 to 2.

Mechanical gauges are generally faster responding but now days that may not even be true. I havent researched gauges in a year or so. Maybe the electric gauges have sped up. But keep in mind the difference isnt really big so I doubt the difference would matter.

Hope this helps.

I personally like trans temp guages if you are racing it. Oil temp and oil pressure are a must in my opinion. Boost obviously if you are supercharged and nitrous pressure if you are on the gas. Otherwise the rest of personal preference.

PS The different part numbers for a oil temp gauge probably represent electric versus machanical. And also the range the gauge shows... Some gauges start and end at different levels....

Paul, check out this link (http://hp.autometer.com/techtips/faq_tech_writeups/mechvselectric/mechvselec.html) for a brief description of the difference between mechanical and electric gauges...

The difference between the 4347 and 4348 oil temp gauges is the range: 4347 is 100°F to 250°F and the 4348 is 140°F to 300°F. I believe the 4347 is the most useful for our purposes. 4356 is the "full sweep" version that has a range of 100°F to 340°F.

The matching trans temp gauge is the 4357, as you found.

As for the "full sweep" description, most electrical gauges are a 90° sweep (indicator range), while most mechanical gauges are 270°..."full-sweep" (270°) electrical gauges are relatively new and are generally about 3X the cost of a 90° gauge...

Thanks.

I ordered the pod and guages from Summit today. Went with the 4347 Oil Temp and the 4357 Tranny Temp. Pod was $27 and guages were $42 each.

Hope they are easy to install. Will need halp with finding right wires to tap into for ignition and headlights.
