So I was really excited to see a Panther finally represented at a semi-professional racing event with full Ford backing and many many mods not readily available or better yet affordable to the average Panther gearhead... I wanted to spend my own time and money to attend every event by following the race car for a week, taking tons of pix, meeting various Panther owners along the way, and just plain old having fun... My attempts to promote the event on the interweb got shut down, and my consideration of attending was threatened with some very unkind words for the enthusiast that went something along the lines of: "if you show up, the team will be disqualified for receiving help..." So I said the hell with it, have a fun event and I hope the Panther wins.

But this evening I'm reading through the pages that show who has shown interest and there's like three freaking guys... What the hell? We had a much bigger showing of support when Jeff got invited to the MM&FF SOHC Corral shoothout at Englishtown....

So with less than a week remaining, I wanted to remind everyone about the event and ask for your support! I would like the plackard/sticker of contributing enthusiasts to be slightly bigger than a Police Interceptor badge!

Show your support here: http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=onelap&Number=827280&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=21&fpart=1&vc=1

Thanks Guys!

PS. On the PayPal donation page be sure to write who you are so you get the proper recognition, not to mention having your name listed on a race car!

here's what it says:

Let's get CVN and the Panther platform some national exposure... for all the times you've been frustrated at the lack of respect or even recognition for our heavy-duty luxo-barges, here's your chance to make your voice heard.

Ned Nuss has been working on the Panther platform since its birth, and convinced Ford management to submit a 2004 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor into the One Lap of America race. The car is being powered by a 04 Cobra engine and "Jerry-spec" transmission, and has gone on a massive diet in preparation for the race. Corporate sponsors have donated parts or big discounts on parts, and various Ford departments have worked on the car in their "spare time" to get the car running ahead of schedule so the driving team can fine-tune the car to be the best a CVPI can possibly be.

The One Lap of America (http://www.onelapofamerica.com) race is actually a series of races held at tracks around the Midwest and East Coast (this year) spanning eight days. For the drivers--Ford engineers who have taken vacation days to be in the race--it's a test of driving skills as well as nerves (a running cliche is "Sleep is for the weak!"). They're also the mechanics, as no support vehicles are allowed (the CVPI team will be towing a trailer with spare parts). One set of tires has to last the whole eight days of nearly non-stop driving.

Ned's been able to get great support from various departments within the Ford system, but there are still expenses that can't be "sneaked" into the corporate budget. The driving team's trip expenses, logo shirts, and ghetto fixes for breakdowns on the road... and of course, a big ol' CVN decal for the car with all the donor's names on it. :D

How can you help? Simple, send money with PayPal (http://www.paypal.com) to OneLap@CrownVic.Net (quick link: use the button below). I propose that those who donate at least $25 would be guaranteed to get their name on the car, but of course any amount is welcome. I also propose that we make our donations in memory of racinggene (http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB1&Number=620386)... this whole idea is right up his alley.

Now's the time to step up and make Ford management, police departments, aftermarket companies, and everyone else know that public support and passion for Crown Vics and the Panther platform is alive and well--and that we're willing to put our money where our mouth is.

That's a worthwhile project Jersey. Many think our input is ignored; but I'll remind everyone that it was outrage from the enthusiast community that saved the Mustang, when they were gonna replace it with the Probe. Supporting Brock Yates and Car & Driver's one lap, may not be the best way, since they turn up their collective noses at anything Ford; but it's a start. Also, I think it's a mistake to be howling about Mercury keeping a hand in the Panther performance game, and we might want to shift priorities to saving the Crown Vic, and pushing for the SVT group to pick up the ball. Although I agree, Shelby's become a media whore, but, for now, he seems to be the only game in town, now that he's muscled Steve Salene, and others aside. Here's a concept: The Carroll Shelby SVT Galaxie 500. Hmmm? :twocents:

Support Brock Yates? Hardly!

We went back and forth through e-mail until I replied to him I want nothing to do with the event, Car and Driver or his ultra ego... In previous e-mails I also made it clear to him that I don't know who he is nor do I care, I don't subscribe to Car and Driver nor do I care for that mag, and I have no personal interest in his event other than the fact that I want to show my support for the Vic. He wanted to sue me and told me if I show up at the event the team will be disqualified, so I said the hell with it!

Support the Panther entry, thats what I propose... Brock Yates, Car and Driver and anything else that might not rub people the right way are just circumstantial details that can be overlooked.
