View Full Version : R134A Scam

I wanted every one to know about the latest SCAM the Government has placed on the consumer. I started out doing A/C years ago DuPont owned the patent on R12 when that patented ran out they started adding a sure charge, now R12 is over 30.00 LB this price gouge was also inflated by the tree huggers that were complaining about depleted ozone layer and there has never been absolute proof R12 or CFC's as they are called was causing this. So in 1994 they created user friendly R134A. Which is OK if the A/C system is designed for it? If you convert some older R12 systems they will not cool as well, some GM cars you cannot convert at all, well guess what R134 has tripled in price and it will continue to sky rocket. The consumer again gets it stuck to him, to me its just a scam on the garage owners and the consumers they are even restricting quantify we can buy. So I would buy some now since any one can do that, and it may save you a lot of money in the future.

Dennis, I had made a thread about this a month or so ago. I managed to buy some at the old price. Ford has now raised it to $249.00 a keg and limits us to one every two weeks. Sucks!!! And our Gov. allow it. :bs: :bs: :bs:

I'm glad SOMEONE agrees with me! I've been saying the same thing (except for the recent 134 increase, which I did not know about) for a long time - only to be sharply critisized.
I converted an S-10 blazer and the thing was never right since. I sold it to my father in law, who still has AC trouble with it.
Shop owners said I was crazy for keeping my R-12 vehicle R-12. The compressor developed a slight leak. I couldn't find anyone to evacuate my R-12, change the compressor (and Rec/dryer, orifice tube, etc. etc.) and re-charge with my own stuff. I got the "nope, gotta buy more" line.
SO- I give them my R-12 (people who convert are also donating R-12) and then buying R-12 at a premium price. I never did change that compressor, I just added freon once a year (it wasn't much, just the usual GM shaft seal leak) until I sold the car.
Sorry for the rant there, and thanks for the tip about the 134.

Here is the cure for your problems, use Freeze12 its a direct drop in replacement for R12 it blows colder than 134A I have been using it for five years be sure to check the orfice tube
I have no doubt that Dennis is right about this. I have a very good friend who is a chemist for the Environmental Protection Agency, and even he says that a lot of the government "data" on pollution is pure BS.

It is all about $$$'s!!! :argue:
DuPont "Legislated" Ammonia gas out of existance many years ago and introduced "Freon" as the replacement....Since the patents wore off Freon and prices fell miserably they did pretty much the same with 134A!! :censor:
Wait until the next round.....Another replacement that saves Koala bear habitats?? We'll catch on someday!!
