Well there I am out at OSW representin the panthers, lookin for a mark-8 or Whimpala SS to run when low and behold I happen upon a mint stock mercury marauder. Well after the baconstrips in my pants from the shock of seeing a car this nice at a drag strip disappeared, I looked around for the owner to no avail. I returned to my car, let some more air out of the rear kuhmos, open the hood, pull the oil fill cap, the radiator cap, the plastic throttle ducting, and wedge the throttlebody open, I wander around again.
This time i happen upon the unsuspecting owner of the MM. Being that I love the car as much as I do and after finally stopped thanking him for being there to represent for 5 minutes or so, I come to find out that its MMs own Merc O matic. He was out for his first time at the strip, and wanted to see what his stock car would do. Boy do I mean stock, I was secretly trying to air his KDWs down to 22 PSI but he caught me and politely mentioned that he wanted to see how it would do running as it was. ::slaps forehead:: "grumbling something about 2.5 second 60 ft times on aired up street tires, I surrendered and talked his ear off for another 15 minutes or so."
I ended up running a 15.1, a 15.3, and a 15.4 (considering my new motor is bone stock down to a paper air filter, this isnt too bad). However, It was down from my 2 weeks ago best of 14.9. I was hooking really well last night too, I cut a 2.2 even 60 ft. time, and holeshotted the crap out of a C5 owner. He was cool too, he gave me the thumbs up on the launch as he was passing me further up the track. Anyway, I will not be spoiling any of MercOmatics glory by disclosing his times, and I hope he chimes in on here and tells you guys whats up, but I will say this. Considering he did this in absolute street trim, spare tire/jack intact, full tire pressure all around and stock gearing and tires, and his first time at the track???????? HE LAUNCHED THAT CAR HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good times for a bone stock marauder in 80 degree weather. Awesome time, Awesome guy, glad to have met him.
Hey central florida owners, we should set up a monthly trip to the track.
