:burnout: While driving with my 3.5 yr old Grandson on the neighborhood streets my MM motor shut down so I pulled over and wrung my hands. I opened the hood and observed the air induction assy had come off the throttle body. Whew, that's my fault, I had it off for cleaning the week before and apparently did not seat it properly. Note - be sure to carry handtools or an "unclean" Mustang driver may have to render aid.

Observing the installation of the JLT, I noticed that the entire weight of the assembly is supported by only one clamp and that's on one end, the throttle body.

Further observation revealed that there is, now, an unused support pillar (for the stock air box assy) immediately below the MAF/RAI tube mating bolt/nut.

So, a 2" angle bracket fits perfectly and supports the JLT to the existing pillar like it was made for it. Just slightly enlargel the existing holes in the new bracket to fit the car/JLT bolts/studs, use a slightly longer bolt on the MAF to RAI adapter (so that it runs completly through the self locking nut) and Volia the assembly is supported by a secure bracket.

Pat,

I hope I don't have this problem!
Can you provide us with pics? Sounds like a great idea!

Mike.

Pat,

Thanks so much for the tip, I'm just about to install my new JLT and it did strike me that there is no support for the filter but I figured that was OK because no one else has mentioned anything.

I'll make sure I include the bracket in my install.

I noticed that problem also but I remedied mines with the factory airbox, dremal modified of course. I trimmed the lower portion of the air box to to the larger cone filter. Also, the MAF sits right on a rear portion of the box that was cut to add such support.

And for the record...the JLT kit IMO is a nicer unit that the K&N kit and 100 cheaper.

I've had my JLT for seven months now, not one problem with it, but Jay Tucker himself installed mine. It helps to have the person who designed the part, install it for you.

Joe.

I would rather spend more now and know I'm getting a kit that works, fits correctly and is made of parts designed specifically for an intake kit

As just another point of view, I want to tell my experience with the K&N. I haven't bought either kit for the MM, but I did buy the K&N FIPK for my 98 Expedition. I had all sorts of problems with it, just like mentioned above. The whole kit was only supported by one small bracket, and would not stay on the throttle body. The thing had a huge heavy filter. After several calls to K&N they finally sent me some new connector fittings and a new smaller air filter. I also got some foam to support the new filter in the old air box. It's been working fine for years now, but getting it right was some hassle. One of their technicians on the phone told me of some procedure to rig it up and said "that's what I do with my skateboards"!

He has K&N's on his skateboards ?

I have had the K&N FIPK on my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for 4 years now with no problems at all.:dunno: Maybe you did not install it correctly.

I've had my JLT for over 10,000 miles and have not had any issues with it coming apart or hood liner damage. When I installed it I made sure everything lined up as it should and all the connections were clean and dry. The $100.00 I didn't spend on the K&N setup went towards my 4.10's :D

My dad made a custom bracket for ours also

I got to agree with Tucker. The kit is quality. And it looks good. I am sure you could spend a few hours sanding the K&N down to paint, but it justwouldn't be the same. And if you are worring about the clamp rubbing, just rotate the screw around to where it doen't hit the liner.

Tuck, man the kit was spot on. Could not have done better myself.

You all can always go with a 14HP K&N drop in panel air filter ya know :D .:poke: :hide: :run:

I've got the JLT with PHP air box and it fits tight, both kits work good together.

SC #5 has been removed from the site for a week, next time it's permanent with no more gimme's.

Vendors should also remember to report abuse to the moderators rather than attempting to deal with the interlopers themselves. Regular humans, without the power of the almighty buttons, will inevitably end up looking as bad as the infidels otherwise...Leave button pushing to the real super heros. :pimp:

I also have the PHP air box, I tried using the JLT tube with it but couldn't make it fit correctly, does yours align up with out any problems ?

It took some manuvering.... the tube has to be at the correct angle inside the rubber elbow off the tb and not fully tucked into the rubber sleeve to the maf.

This is what I did. I dremeled the air box to fit in the air box. The airbox now doubles as a support for the system and a heat shield.

Now if you can find the tube from the front of a Crown Vic air box you'll have a dual inlet airbox. With a little bit more dremeling of course. It will work as the Rad support has both holes in it.
