Supercharger question, I know, I know. This is NOT to be a pissing contest. It took me a year to want to modify my MM because i also have a buick Grand National and have been putting all my money into that. But now i want to modify this car but some of the posts i have read looking for advice have turned into wars so PLEASE dont do that to this one or i will just go back to the buick forums where people want to help others and not try to outdo others. I am in the market for either centrif. or roots, i have another post asking to ride in one of each. I dont care whos is better because that is all opinion and customer loyalty most of the time instead of truth. I have done searches and could not find any factual answers, everytime the ? is asked people are affraid to answer. What i did find was a wide range of dyno hp #s for each set up. What i want to know is from people with a stock motor with the addition of a supercharger regaurdless of type or brand and with a tune to let me know what hp the kit said you should see, what dyno rwhp you are seeing with the sc and tune, What type roots or centrif. blower. What tune, What you paid for the kit, I dont know why people are affraid to answer that ? because in my opinion a vendor should treat everyone the same as far as pricing unless you buy multiple items. So a price would be nice you dont have to mention from who. And where do you feel in the rpm range the power is generated. This would really help me decide what route to go money wise, power wise, and installation wise. If anybody has a link to tests that were done by third party testers on different kits that would be extremely helpful, like from car and driver, fast fords or anybody else. Thank you for any help you can offer. Lets all work together to be the best group that we can be.

PM the man your responses. You've all proven you can't handle a Supercharger discussion rationally.

Driving the cars with different types of blowers and looking under the hood should be about all you need, the prices are no secret. Reinhart about $6000, Trilogy about $6000, Procharger about $4950 plus shipping and install. Dyno numbers ??? do you really care ? TIMESLIPS (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/timeslips.php?) would be more meaningful, after all on a dyno the car is not going anywhere.
Good Luck.

Well for me the dyno works out better. IE: more controlled enviroment which is more consistant #s and since i cant afford 5 sets of DRs one set for each one of my cars and traction is a problem for now. Whether its 300hp or 500 hp if you cant plant the power to the ground you wont know if you are improving or not. Thanks to all that have given their opinion, please keep them coming. And thank you for the facts about your own kit, so far no one has bashed anybody. So lets keep it that way.:)

I gotta agree that the real test is driving an MM with each type of blower and see what you like the best.
I personally prefer the quieter roots style blowers, at least based on riding around in an MM with one installed, but then there are people who really like the whine of a Vortec or Procharger. I never would have had such a preference had I not been in cars with each type of supercharger.

Good post Billy, hope you don't mind that I condensed it. Like Billy says it all depends what you want out of the car and want your willing to spend.
See we can be civilized. :stooges:

Hey, who is using Billy's screen name????
Marty!! Billy doesn't know that we took control of his computer. He types in his response and sees what he typed, but we edit it before it is posted and keep him from seeing the change. Now quiet!!

Off topic yes...but I really don't care at this point.
What mods do you have on your GN? We have an 87TR in the family. Check pics...they're on page 2 of my gallery.

BillyGman, Can you stick to what Logan asked and PM the gentleman with your opnion about roots vs. Centrifical blowers but I guess it's to late for that. I do not agree with analogy and am not going to debate it here.

I have a 85 hot air with a walbro 340, hotwire, afpr, 87 ecm swap, rear air bags, hooker cat back with test pipe, front mount i/c, and the ussual guages and frame bracing. I want to do a ta 60 with 60lb inj. but the car has over 200k and runs great but still has the stock valve springs, oil pump and t- chain so since i dont want to blow up the motor i have decided to mod the MM and the MM will probably be faster and more reliable anyways.
BTW thank you for the replies and please keep them coming, I cant believe there is no one in texas that will not let me ride in thier s/c car:(
