I've been wanting to do this mod for awhile - replacing the waterfall on the rear badge with a Mercury godshead.

I ordered up two centercaps and a new badge (thanks Ray!) as instructed in in the Badge Mod DIY thread (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14444) but I got the bright idea of modding the existing badge while it was still on the trunk.
So out came the dremel and a few bedsheets to cover up the trunk from getting too messy (my wife -> :argh:, me -> :dunno: ) and I had at it. I was pretty surpised at how easy it was to route out the plastic embossed waterfall from the center of the badge so I just took it down flush to the black background. The nailbiter was getting just close enough to the border without messing it all up.
Anyway, I took the centercap, cut it away from the wheel clip and cleaned the gunk off the back with alcohol. I roughed up the back of the badge with some sandpaper and rounded over the back edge to get it to fit just right into the border. I glued it down with some two-part epoxy and 2 hours start-to-finish I'm done.
Attached are some pics. Sorry about my camera, its been in rough shape ever since it took a bounce off the pavement awhile back. I took a side-shot to show how much proud the centercap will stick out of the the badge border when you only take it down to the background.
I took one of the pics without the flash (above) and it turned out looking like the badge was gold-plated (bling-bling). I don't know if I'm going to paint the godshead background or not... I'll give it some time. I guess I'll throw the new badge in the restoration pile.
