The crash test results for the 2004 Mercury Marauder seem to be based on the results of a 200* Grand Marquis. Please note that the tire sized listed on the Marauder is P225/60R16 whereas the actual size is P235/45R18 in the front and P245/4518 in the rear (or something very similar. Front and Rear sizes differ.)

Also, the Marauder has a DOHC engine compared to the Marquis/Crown Victoria/Town Car SOHC. I'm sure that won't make a difference since the car already recieved a ***** rating, but hopefully you were complete in your test findings on the 2003/2004 Mercury Marauder.

You are correct that the Mercury Marauder ratings and results are based on those of the Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Marquis. Even though the vehicles have significant differences especially from a performance standpoint, for the purpose of crash test and rollover ratings the models are considered to be "corporate twins." As is often the case with special or high performance versions of vehicles, the test data reflects the tested version of the vehicle, which is usally the base model. For example, the tire size listed for the Marauder is the size that was fitted on the test vehicle, which was a standard Crown Victoria in this case.

If we find that a majority of unit sales of a vehicle model are equipped with a particular option like a larger wheel/tire, then we make every effort to test a vehicle with that option.

I hope that this information is useful.

Actual OEM is P235/50ZR18 fronts and P245/55ZR18 rears. The "WR" tires are now available (rated to 168 mph--I think vice 149 mph for the "ZR"s). :D
